Bowbird misses, update see page 3. !!!!
 

This isn't meant to diminish anyone's accomplishments or anything of the sort. I want to know if my peers have days like me...lol.

I missed two gobblers on opening day from about 20-25yds, ea.

I've had 1 bird in closer than that (18yds).....since then....with no shot opportunity.

As my season draws to an end (tomorrow).....those two opening day misses are going to haunt me until next April. I want to know if you other guys going after them witht the bow have experienced misses this year, too. How many shots? How many birds?

I have no misses this year. Of course, I have no shots logged either :D

2 20 yard misses? I assume the excitement got to you? It happens. At least it has happened to me.

It did, huntingson. I'd never been that close to one. I admitted the next day I got caught up in the excitement. In retrospect.....I should have waited on the first AND second shots. I had 7 jakes in front of me on the second miss.

I relate this to my deer hunting SO MUCH. Being around deer (and I see a lot) makes me realize that there are going to be good shot opportunities.....and that there's no reason to take an "iffy" one. I had a wonderful buck right under me the day after Thanksgiving that I passed at 4 yds. The angle ......shot over my left shoulder........I just thought he deserved better than that. He walked. NO regrets.

I should have either waited for better shot opportunities, that day.....or not shot.

Iwas just wanting to see if everyone else has their share of misses, too. No explanation required!:)

Hell yes it happens.[8D] I missed 2 birds in the fall here 2 years ago at 20 yards. Only took feathers off one and clean missed the other. I've missed a buck at 16 yards only to double lung him at 41 on my 3rd shot....(remember the 04 contest buck)....lol and one of the best shooters I know missed a bull elk at 19 yards!!!!! IN FRONT OF THE BULL, said he didn't remember looking through the peep, Excitement happens.:D and I don't ever want it to end.;)

On spring birds I'm 2 for 4 in KS, took the first one at 34 yards, perfect shot. The second shot I took breast feathers off one at 41 yards, 3rd one I called head shot on camera and a Blazer nicked his chin at 18 yards (on camera slow motion) only to have me take his heart out at 20 yards immediately following. :D

When I attempted to aim at the first jake this year.....EVERYTHING seemed "foreign" to me. I've taken a few deer, now.....and that doesn't happen to me any more in the deer woods.

This was different.....and Rob will tell you that I was PERFECTLY at ease when the big tom we had at 18yds was in our set. It just takes being "in the arena" as much as possible to get to that point. I honestly feel like my next encounter with a bird will end differently. I've been there, now.

I could take the miss a lot better if I hadn't been so impatient. THAT is what will keep me thinking about it for a while.

I missed an elk at 30 yards my first time out when I was 14. I was so excited I am not sure that I even used my sight pins... seriously.:D

I don't think it would be fun if it didn't get us so riled up. I would like to think that I have learned how to work through it now, but if excitement ever costs me again I can't really get upset about it. It just means I still love it that much.
