Best strings for hunting bow
 

Okay, it's that time of year again. Time to strip off that frayed-up string and reconfigure with a new set of strings.

So, what do you guys think is the best string material on the market right now for a hunting bow?


I really abuse my equipment (soaking it, freezing it, dragging it through the brush, cooking it in the hot car, not waxing it), and I've had really good luck with an 8125 prestretched@ 100#. No reason to mess with a good thing, so I keep doing the same thing year after year. Just wondering what kind ofluck you all have had with the various string types.

Winners choice are popular around these parts Fran... My tech is ready for a new string, upgrading the sights and rest here real soon as well..

Do the newBowtechs come from the factory with the Brownell TS1on them? What is it, exactly?

Weren't they using some kind of 8125 blend before?

Do you guys think that we, as hunters, don't pay enough attention to our string materials? Really, there are string materials out there that can move around a lot in the sweltering heat, or in a soaking rain, or even just packed away in a bow case under the bed for six months with 70-80# of tension on 'em.

Any horror stories?

i was curious about the same thing. gibblet gave me lots of choices and i simply dont know...

its gunna be a few weeks till i order so i didnt post yet...but you took care of it for me...:)

all i know is the factory string on my reflex is shot. that sucker twists about 4x before it hits full draw:D

im mainly looking for speed, stability and durability in my choice material though...my bow is already slow..plus shooting heavier arrows this year...so itll be SUPER slow..figure if i can pick up some speed that would be GREAT. i know i give up stregnth to get speed though...i rather do it...im careful with my stuff...i mean its a hunting rig...but i will get cut to shredds by brush before my bow touches it!!:eek:

452x.

Gibblet's gonna cringe when he hears this, but honestly all of my competition bows are gibblets made from 452x andthese bows sit in the back of my car all summer, and all winter in the heat and extreme cold. They just don't move. Most string guys cringe when they hear of the bow sitting in thecar like this but it really doesn't seem to affect these strings. Unless something spectacular comes out, I will continue using 452x strings from gibblet and the new halo serving material he is now using is fantastic and the tightest holding serving material I have ever seen. This stuff lasts on an Apex 7 cam for thousands of shots, and that is something that I have never seen before even with winners choice.

Mines a 04 model.. I'll have to check what came stock on it, but I do remember my pro shop owner making reference to the quality of string.. I definately havent and didnt pay close attention to string material, after listening to what many of the guys here have had to say in regards to strings, I started asking a few of the local pro shop guys as what they considered the best strings out there.. they all brought up the winner choice.. in these conversations..
