RE: huge rack
It's called and Irish Elk, but it's exstinct. I've seen one in the Denver Museum of Natural History that had over 11' spread. And we thought we were big trophy hunters, we got nothing on the caveman. :D
|
RE: huge rack
I wonder if cavemen had any ero mounts hanging in their caves?
|
RE: huge rack
Tremendous beasts for sure! The Irish Elk is/was THE largest deer species EVER! Standing over 7 feet at the shoulders with antlers up to 12 feet wide they are simply amazing animals! I'm somewhat surprised that more folks here aren't familar with these monsters?
It ranged throughout Europe, northern Asia and northern Africa, and a related form is known from China. The name "Irish" has stuck because excellent, well-preserved fossils of the giant deer are especially common in lake sediments and peat bogs in Ireland. The last of this great species died some 11,000 years ago. I would like to get some isolated island location like Jurassic Park and bring these babies back! I think one would look pretty awesome with my Hoyt over it's shoulders? ;):D |
RE: huge rack
Monster for sure.

RE: huge rack
I think someone put his antlers on backwards [8D]

RE: huge rack
I looked it up............its an Irish Elk
|
RE: huge rack
You are correct it was labeled an Irish elk at the museum and is extinct . It would be real cool if they weren't
