RE: 40# suggestions?

KRISKEN First of all, I think you should be commended for supporting your son in this endeavor. I too started hunting with my son at an early age, I've never regetted it. It is without doubt the best thing I've ever done. We focused so much time on checking out country, scouting and hunting, he didnt have time to get in trouble. He is now 23 my best friend, and the best hunting partner you could ask for. I'm sure their's other fathers out there that would agree with me. I remember my sons first bow, it was a hoyt raider, set at 40# 1916 easton aluminum arrows with 3 blade bear broadheads.Gosh he was so proud of that thing. He took a nice mule deer and a bull elk with that bow set at 40# I called the elk in so saw the shot at 12yrds there was about 2 or 3 inches of fletching sticking out just above the heart. That elk only went aprox. 150yrds So I would say for turkey or deer, no problem. I just wanted to share this with you, hoped it helped. Everyones ideas I read up to here are right on the money. By the way my sons broadheads were 100grn. elknut1

I am glad I could help you out some. I tell you once he starts hunting he will be hooked. As for hunting deer, just let him try a few times and he will learn pretty quick that it's just not so easy to shoot a deer, any deer with a bow and arrow! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I kno
