Turkey Hunting
Well guy's Ive been able to make it into the turkey woods twice so far with no luck. Ive been seeing plenty of turky's but I can't get in the mood. Before I forget, the reason I'm posting this here is b/c I'm using a bow, and I spend the most of my time in this forum. Anyway the question I was wanting to ask is; if the turkeys aren't gobbling do you enjoy the hunt as much. So far I have managed to call in a few birds but none of them gobbled. They came in and I was unable to get my bow back w/o being detected.
How do you guy's feel about this and would you get as much enjoyment from the harvest if the bird didn't come in gobbling? |
RE: Turkey Hunting
If you read my story from Saturday.....you'll see I'm having a blast!
Are you using a blind? I heard gobbling until about 9:45. NONE of the birds I had a chance at came IN gobbling (though the 7 jakes LEFT gobbling...lol). Heck...I might have just been set up where they wanted to come......and MY calling likely had nothing to do with their interest in the area. Who knows? Kepp at it. I will be!:) |
RE: Turkey Hunting
Yes, it's still exciting and still hunting turkeys with a bow. Sometimes they just don't gobbler be it pressure, atmosphere, weather or what ever makes them gobble because the man who figures that out and makes a call/mechanism to make them gobbler every time, he'll be a millionaire in a day.
I like anybody love to fire them up but I'm just as excited when I see that red, white or blue head come sneaking in silent. Most times then not, it's the silence that is the suspense anyway, eyes searching, ears listening. If the gobble and run in, that's not fun, well, some fun...lol |

RE: Turkey Hunting
It'll make a difference if (like your original post stated) you're trying to draw undetected.
Believe that!:) |
RE: Turkey Hunting
I LOVE turkey hunting with a bow anytime! However, it's a totally different feel when they aren't gobbling. There's just something about that thuderous booming gobble when it's headin' your way!

RE: Turkey Hunting
I understand that GMMAT[8D] but that isn't exactly what I was going for this year. I would like to take a bird (TOM) with my bow and no blind. I think I can do it, but I need some sort of warning that he is on his way. I may have been able to squeeze one off at one of the birds I've seen but wasn't sure and didn't want to spook him too much. I still say there is somthing about that booming gobble that is like no other and when you don't hear it but you see the bird, it take something away from the hunt.
