Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
This is my first time posting pictures, had all kinds of trouble but finally got them. The first picture I got about a month and a half ago and have four identical to it, thought he was just a pretty fair 8 pointer, needed to grow one more year so I didn't hunt this farm at all.
Got the second picture on December 1st and was amazed. I really think this is the same deer by the length of his tines and how they turn up on the end. Just got my film back yesterday and went hunting today, saw nothing. Third picture was on the same roll but he was in the corner and far away so it didn't clean up very well but gives good perspective on how big he is. Anyone care to guess what he might score? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
farmerjoe, welcome to the board! And thank`s for the great pictures.
I am guessing that your 8 point would gross right around 120". I am having a hard time coming up with an age for him. 2.5-3.5 years old probably. Thank`s again for the pictures! NRA,UBP,BASS Member New Stanton,PA |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I would also guess a 3.5 year old and maybe score 120's. But hard to tell. He is an awesome buck regardless. I for one would not pass on him.

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Wow, nice buck. Maybe I'm sqrewy but I think he'd be around 140. That's an awfully tall rack with pretty good mass.

Great pics,
It will be an outstanding buck next year, but it would take an army to convince the Mathews from creating a blood trail. |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Beautiful animal....Thanks for sharing and welcome aboard!!
|
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I would also guess him to gross somewhere around 120.
Nice tine length, but his inside spread looks to be about 14". Another year should give him time to get some mass. Beautiful buck...thanks for the pics and welcome to the board.:) Don't feel bad about posting pics, it took me a year to figure it out! TB |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I haven't scored many deer in my life but I was thinking about 130 or 140 gross. The picture I have is a little clearer and his spread is probably 16 or 17 inches. Maybe I'll get some better pictures.
If he was on my big farm I hunt I would definitely let him go, but he is on my farm behind my house. My farm is only 40 acres with 10 being wooded. It is also at the end of the world as I say. I connect to several large farms but mine is at the end corner of them all. He has to come from these other farms to mine. He will probably make it anyway. I've got about 7 pictures of him and all are at night but one which is 10 minutes till dark. I think he is 3.5 years old. Next year he will be 4.5 almost full grown and maybe pushing B&C. I've got a salt lick but plan on making it into a mineral lick and planting some clover. I'm still going to hunt this afternoon. Will I have better luck with my antlers or my can. I live in Kentucky |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
115"-120" - young deer that next year will probably gain main beam length and mass - going to be a real beauty

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
That's a very nice buck. Great pics.
I think most of you guys are guessing pretty low on the score. This deer would go 130's. He's probably 3.5 to 4.5 years. I'd guess his G1's are 4", G2's 12", G3's between 8" and 10". His beam length and width could use a boost. But his tine length is impressive. |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
That's a tall one! Nice beam and good tine length.
Those are the ones that make your heart skip a beat<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Shoot often - Hunt always |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
id say it would go 125 maybe 130 that would be pushing it before deductions then maybe 120 net still an impressive deer them b and c points dont mean squat if the buck makes you happy and that one rigth there would make me smile quite a bit

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
wow you guys are very conservative on your guesstamations if you ask me
I assume this is a KY deer? rack is ear width or slightly wider...definately more than 14"...probly more like 16" very good tine length...probly 13" and 11" tines I have an 8 point on the wall at home that looks very similar to that one except that one looks even taller than mine mine has 11" G2's ... 9" G3's ...hair over 15" spread and nets 123 5/8" best I could guess from the pix is that deer would easily make the P&Y minimum...probly net in the low 130's that deer has ALOT of growing to do to even think about getting near B&C...it takes a HUGE 8 pointer to do that and he'll probly only come close if he starts growing 10 point racks. ** I almost got him but I refuse to take a marginal shot ** |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I believe most of y'all are judging him way too conservatively also.
...120's? Dang, c'mon guys, he's bigger'n that ain't he? I'm sure no expert, but I'd sure bet he scores higher. Gross in low 140s & net mid-130's is my (offhand) guess. Whereabouts are you farmerjoe? I'm in SW Ky here. |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Very nice buck, looks like an agricultural area deer, with the high tines.
|
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Yea Knobby its a Ky deer. I'm assuming he will be a 10 or 12 pointer next year. We have great genetics around here. I've hunted, lived here, and farmed all my life (I'm 29) and have never seen an 8 pointer that big, so surely he will be at least a 10 next year.
I know it takes a monster to make B&C but with 2 more points, a little more length, and more mass, surely he would be getting close. If he's an 8 again next year I might have to cull him from the herd. Went hunting today, didn't see a deer. I lives a few miles north of Paducah, in Livingston County. Where are you at arrowsmit? |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Very nice deer, has some potential for sure. Guessing around 130. Sure is tall. Anybody have a picture of an 8ptr that went a typical 170 or heard of one? I've seen pictures of some big 8's but to get B&C would sure be a amazing animal.

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
i do not even want to guess what he will score, but if he was to walk under me he would be very unfortunate.
|
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I would have to say 120 - 125. He's a great looking deer and there is nothing wrong with taking him if that's what YOU want. I've been using these cameras for about 7 years now and trust me, the deer are very photogenic. I had a buck on a camera 2 years ago that everyone thought would b 155-160. Well, he was harvested that year and guess what 143. The camera's do a great job but they can mislead a little.
Good luck, you should be happy if you see him during shooting light. J. Shoot Searching |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
farmerjoe that deer has a heck of a tall rack for a young deer, he will be a real bruiser in another year or two.

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Ive seen pix of B&C 8 pointers but they sure arent common. Ive even seen a 6 pointer that almost made it...it netted in the high 160's if I remember right....was in North American Whitetail magazine a few years ago.
hahaha listen to farmerjoe....hes gunna 'cull' a 130 class 8 pointer...gee wish I lived where we had those kind of 'cull bucks' lol my guess is that deer will remain an 8 pointer and probly just add more mass, width, and sticker points with age ** I almost got him but I refuse to take a marginal shot ** |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
nice deer i would guess 120- 130 class
|
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
ks: Bet this guy is close.http://www.american-hunter.com/monst...geraldbuck.htm
farmer: He may only go 130, but he sure as hell aint no cull buck. If he's not what you want, wait. |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
I am going to say that he is maybe around 115". Tops in the mid 120" range. I will tell you one thing, deer look ALOT bigger than they score. I know, I scored a buck that came off my hunting grounds about a week ago. This deer looks VERY VERY impressive. He had 3/4" of deductions. He is a perfectly tyical 8 point. I forget his exact spread but it was around 17". His G2's were a little over 8". He looked like a mid 120" class deer, I got the tape on him and he came out at 104 3/8". I will try to get pics on here after work tonight to show you guys what I am talking about. I have some pics of this rack.

RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Thanks guys for all the replys.
I was joking a little when I called him a "cull" buck. I'd be EXTREMELY proud to have this guy on my wall. BUT if I really practice QDM and he is 4.5 next year and only an 8 pointer maybe he needs "removed" from the herd. Am I wrong? I'm assuming he is 3.5 this year because it would be incredible for a 2.5 year old to have that large of a rack. I know its hard to judge by a picture, but looks to me he's a little taller and got a hair more mass than the deer knobby posted. I've got a roll of film being developed, maybe I'll get better pictures. I've got other pictures of 1.5 year old twin spike bucks along with young looking (probably 1.5 years old) 6 and 7 pointers. Could he have fathered the spikes and a different buck fathered the others? I know there are countless uncontrollabe factors and deer travel miles and disperse ect. but a 4.5 year old should have more points seems to me. Again please correct me if I'm wrong. I'll try to post my pictures of my little buck in the next day or two. I don't mean to turn this into a QDM thread, just curious of others opinions. |
RE: Pictures of BIG 8 pointer (on hoof)
Nub, yeah that is a monster 8, but still don't know if it has the height to make 170, would be very close though. Here is another 8ptrs from Kansas that might be close, but prolly still won't make it. My buddies father shot a big one a couple years back. It was a 4x5 with the 5 side having a small 5th point, with a 25 1/2 inside spread, good hieght, scored under a little under 160 after deductions. Just showed me first hand how big an 8ptr really has to be to get to 170. I'm sure there are a few out there though.
