shoot thru blind mesh questions

I've been wanting to ask these questions and the ASAT blind post finally got me to it (because I'm going to order one). Have read a few times where folks talk about the shoot thru mesh and I am assuming it's just what it says "shoot thru". Now my questions are:Does ittruely not effect the flight of the arrow? Do you have to be shooting cut on contact type BH's vs. chisel heads to get a clead cut thru? And finally, 1 shot through and it's time to replace that section and what is cost? I haven't seen where any of the manufacturers offer replacement mesh but then I have'nt really been looking. Maybe I'm way off base here so how about someone explain this for me and also maybe we can see some pros and cons. Thanks

RE: shoot thru blind mesh questions

I've shot Muzzy's through the mesh of my DB Matrix.

NO problem.
Doesn't affect arrow flight.

You're mistaken on how many times you can shoot throughit, too. I'd say HUNDREDS....not ONCE.

In all honesty, though.....replacing the mesh in a DB Matriix would be NO EASY FEAT. it's sewn in. If I ever have to replace mine (I don't see it happenin').....I'd likely .....HONESTLY......just buy the ASAT blind (due to the cost differences and the reviews it seems to be getting).

Good luck.

RE: shoot thru blind mesh questions

last summer i purchased the ameristep brickhouse blind, along with a friend. we first tried shooting thru the mesh with field point, not successful. at 30 yds, it was difficult to even see where the arrow had went, the mesh was enough to distort ourvision. two out of four arrows were lost. figured it was the dull point raising havok.

tried the broadhead at a closer range, hit the target, but arrows were all over. figured 'why wouldn't shooting through mesh affect the arrow flight?' so now i remove the zippered mesh windows when bowhunting from blind.

turkey loads from the 870 seemed to have no effect from the mesh, so that still worked out ok.

I have an Ameristep Doghouse and have no issues with the mesh effecting arrow flight. I use a Muzzy four blade. Like GMMAT stated above, the mesh will take quite a few shots before it needs to be replaced(I haven't had to replace mine yet). I would say you probably need to replace it if you have loose strips that are flapping around in the wind.

I would definately use a cut on contact or chisel tip as opposed to a mechanical when shooting through mesh. In fact I have yet to see a blind manufacturer, that doesn't advise the same thing.

Cabela's has the replacement mesh windows for my Doghouse for $20.

I use Muzzy 3 blade heads and have no problem shooting through the mesh.

If you read the fine print on your blind it says "Do not discharge firearms through the mesh. The discharge may cause a fire."

Dan has a good video of himself shooting out of his DB blind. I'll do some searching and see if I can dig it up.
