My Martin is set at 55 lbs and with carbon arrows and a 100 gr tip I am at272fps more than enough zip for a pass through on a deer. Hit my in the back leg this year and penatrated amonst 10in. and got am artery he went about100yds and folded.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

The best way to see how much weight you can pull is to sit flat on the ground indian style and pull the string back. You should be able to pull the string straight back w/o raising the bow any to help. When you get to the point that you have to raise the bow then back the poundage off 5 pounds. After that you can raise the poundage a little every two or three weeks, depending on how much you practice. As you raise the poundage make sure that you can still do the above.

I buy 60# bows and set them between 55 & 57#. They still do the job, and are easy for me to pull back. 40# is the minimum in Ohio.
