are ground blinds the new treestand
are pop up ground blinds the new treestand. i see more and more people using them and more Companys making them. what do you think?

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
People have always hunted from the ground, pop ups just make it somewhat easier now. I don't think you'll see a large number of guys giving up climbing trees. Ground blinds just give a hunter another option.
I guess I haven't been bitten by the 'bug' just yet. |
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
I have always hunted from the ground (made my own blinds) when the situation called for it. A pop up just makes it easier to get to the perfect spot whenthe terrain won't allow you otherwise. When available I try to go up a tree.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
Just because they are popular and people buy them, doesn't mean they will ever come close to acheiving the effectiveness of a treestand.
|
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
Folks will never give up their tree stands. I agree that blinds are building in popularity, but they just aren't as effective for deer as a tree stand. Note that I said AS effective, because they are effective. I shot one out of a pop up last fall.
Now for turkeys, pop ups are venom. That's the way to go for birds....They simply pay NO attention to a blind at all. Just don't get out of the blind with birds in sight... |

There are jsut too many advantages to being elevated. Ground blinds are good but a treestand is better whenever it is possible.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
Its just another tool. When the leaves drop, or if you are in low scrub pines, its perfect for that. But, its also a lot less work than a tree stand, and I can sit inside, with my feet up, reading a book, wearing shorts, and drinking a sweet tea, all the while, having deer come up to 15 steps completely unaware of my intentions.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
You'll never see a pop up replace a treestand , like rybohunter said just because they'er getting popular that doesn't mean more hunters are taking huntingon the ground.
Hunting from a treestand has alot more advantages than using a ground blind , every hunter knows that. I use a ground blind when hunting deer but only when the weather is too rough for a treestand. |
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
I don't think ground blinds will replace treestands in the East, Midwest or South, but in the West, I don't know. I was fortunate enough to be able to hunt a ranch adjacent to Forest Service land in Wyoming in '05 and never once did I wish for my stand, Boy did I miss my blind though. It seemed like no matter where I went, I could find the perfect set-up for it.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
When I hunt from the ground I use natural cover no popup. I'd say I hunt out of the stand 80% of the time.
|
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
For me they will be as it is easier to film out of. I prefer a treestand though and nothing is as effective IMO at taking a whitetail than a treestand. The ground blind is more comfortable so you can hunt longer, helps contain your human scent, hides your movement, and is easy for you to take a kid with you. Whitetails are just so aware of their environment that a same day setup on a mature whitetail is tough.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
I doubt they'll ever replace treestands but for me they seem at least as productive if not slightly moreso.
I took all 5 of my deer this past year from pop ups & 8 out of 11 the year before. I set them up a couple weeks before the season & leave them there. Out of those 8 deer year before last 6 were doubles. Once they accept the blind as part of their environment they dont understand what happened when you whack one out of a group. They look around for a few minutes & settle down as long as you dont blow it. I like sitting in a tree better personally because I can see more area but I cant argue with sucess.;) |
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
Nope.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
I'd have to say they're becoming more and more popular by the day. People are realizing how effective they are and how safe they are. I'd say safety for the majority of the hunting crowd is part of the importance. Just my two.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
i would say yes because they have changed the way that SOME OF US HUNT AND THEY ARE JUSR AS IF NOT MORE EFFECTIVE
 |
RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
i disagree depending on ur land i would have to say that depending on ur terrain cuz i know where i hunt there are probably one or two trees that i can get on and they are still to low and small.....in my place it would have to be a ground blind but thats why im planting some oaks that way in years to come maybe i can have a couple more places to hunt on in a tree but i like the comfortableness of a ground blind

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
Maybe they'll replace treestand for out of shape old coots or for people that have untampered lands to hunt. But, for the majority of us, there's nothing like 20 feet up on a frosty morning. There's nothing like the mobility of a climber or hang on. They may have there place if you want to use them, but you can do just fine or better from above. They're obtrusive and bulky. A blow down or a couple strategically placed clippings will do the same job. They're not the way I like to hunt.

Not for me!!!!! I'll never give up my stands!

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
For many of us hunting from the ground is nothing new. I have been hunting from the ground for as long as I have been hunting. I bow hunt and from the start I was making "homemade" blinds or using natural blinds(deadfalls, windbreaks, old farm structures). I love hunting on the ground when it fits. Don't get me wrong I love my stands toobut some spots can't be hunted from a stand and sometimes I hunt a spot on a whim and I don't have time to hang a stand. I think the recent burst in blind hunting has more to do with the market being flooded with them than anything else. I have picked up a couple of these too and had good success last season with them, are they the new treestand? No, but they definately have a place in my hunting shed.

RE: are ground blinds the new treestand
I think groundblinds are definitely gaining popularity as a whole. I've always hunted on the ground, just started using stands this past season. I think for gun hunting, blinds are starting to replace stands, for bow I wouldn't say the same.
