First Turkey of the Year
Well we got our first turkey of the year on the ground opening day of Nebraska archery season. It was a great looking 2 year old pure Merriam. Hopefully we will get a few more in Nebraska before Kansas and Missouri open.

Great looking bird you got there. Man I really love those Merriam Tail Feathers. I think they are the best looking subspecies.
Is that the new Realtree AP you guys have on? It blends into the background well in the pics. |
RE: First Turkey of the Year
Yeah, its the new Realtree APG. It blends in great out there. We havent had any trouble drawing back on the birds, especially when hunting from a pine tree blind :)

It is one of the few places with pure merriams. Those small hillls seem like small mountains when chasin those darn birds! Im glad to get back to hunting easterns on some more familiar terrain! ;) |
RE: First Turkey of the Year
Sorry, I have been living in Nebraska for about 6 years and I am missing the rockies in Wyoming. They are small compared to what I used to hunt elk in. Lots of turkeys up there though.
