Am I the only one...

Who wasn't blown away by the Guardian?

I had the opportunity to play around with one a bit today and I wasn't as happy with it as I thought I would be.

When I walked back and noticed they had them in stock again I asked my friend who was working if they were going to let me trade my Allegiance for one. He laughed and told me to shoot it before I made that decision.

Well I did.

And I wasn't extremely impressed. All of the good things everyone has said are true. It's quiet, but not more so than my Allegiance is with string silencers and a stabalizer [I think, I didn't have my bow there to compare]. It had no shock or recoil.

The worst part was that thedraw completely sucked. I was shooting a 70 lb model and it felt a lot heavier than that. I felt like I was struggling to get the thing back the entire time. Most bows, even with a somewhat harsh draw, always seem to ease up about 1/3 of the way through, but not the Guardian. I can't imagine trying to draw this thing wearing bulky winter clothes in negative degree weather.

Its a cool bow and definitely looks a lot better in person than it does on paper, however, I'm definitely glad I went with the Allegiance instead of waiting for a Guardian. If they can do something about that draw, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

The only one I have shot was set at 50 lbs and I honestly thought it was more like 65. I dont know the exact arrow weight but they werent light. A 50 pound bow shooting heavy arrows with a factory hush kit, hmmmmm. All I have to say is it better be quiet. No hand shock what top end bow does.

I shot one at the IL deer show. Granted it was into the back wall of the booth and I couldn"t tell much. But I think I will wait a year and see how the reports are after a full hunting season. It didn't say take me home with you loud enough yet.

I can tell you this.....A well respected member of this forum, and good friend of mine is a DIE HARD Bowtech guy, and he SOLD his about 2 weeks after he bought it.....That spoke volumes to me.....But in the Gaurdians defense, and to not make it appear as if he had negative feelings toward it.......I think he just REALLY likes his Alley.....;)

I would have been perfectly happy with the Alligence or the Guardian. Was the draw length set up correctly for you?? The Guardian is definitely quieter or has a less harsh whoosh when it goes off??? I also wanted the "Latest and Greatest New Ugly Thing". If I had to wait much closer to moving time I probably would have switched my order to an Allegiance. It's a great bow. I do like the back wall better. I shot them both for several days along with some others before I decided.

David,

The bow I shot was about a half inch long for me. I don't know. Had I waited for one to come in and bought it, I just think I would have been disapointed. I'm glad I went with the Allegiance. They're both awesome bows, but I definitely prefer a smoother draw.

Also, the Guardian only comes in one cam. Your allegiance can have the SMOOTH cam or the SPEED cam. Which do you have. That alone makes a big difference.

The smooth mods, which is something I thought about when I was shooting the Guardian. I realize it makes quite a difference, but thats why I stuck with them instead of buying the speed mods. I love that smooth draw.

Well there you have it. You're comparing apples and oranges again. With my short draw length I was looking for as much speed built in as I can get. You long armed young punks don't have to worry about that. LOL When I get all done with loop and heavy arrows, and 4 fletched Carbon Techs I'm down to 250 fps

RE: Am I the only one...

I shot it on Christmas eve last year and gave pretty muchthe same review as you. I didn't like the draw at all..........shot it again last week and still didn't like it. That, and all the serving wear I saw on bows still in the shop made me put the bow down with no real considerations of buying it.

I posted a review in the tech forum a long time ago.
