it's a darn SHAME!!!!!!!!!

Guys i just need to vent a little bit, me and my father just found out today that a piece of property we have leased for the past 6 years has been sold to the park district, so of course no more hunting, the sucky part is that lease was the spot of my first harvest of a buck with my father, not only that in the past 3 years we have spent over 3,000 dollars in food plots, this property has produced at least a dozen 160-170 class bucks to friend and family and our selves over the past 6 years, we have pretty much taken this placed and turned it into a managable deer lease, and over the past 6 years we have seen the population of deer just constantly grow and produce bigger and healthier deer every year, and to just twist the knife a little more my grandfather knows the gamewardens up here pretty well so he contacted one of them today to see if there was anything going on with the property and he said that they had hired a half dozen "sharp shooters" to come in a harvest like 80% of the deer, so much for the past six years, the money but worst off all the memories we had.... thanks guys

oh my, that is horrible. I guess that is a big dwonside of putting money into land you dont own. Thats some really bad luck right there. Is there any of the surrounding lands you could lease?

no the bad thing (but was a good thing when we leased it was) that it is surronded by forrest preserve on 3 sides and on the back side it had a major river running through it, in all it was a total of 387 acres we had.... One more thing, i just found out the total number of deer they took out of there and they shot and killed nearly 200 deer this past week.... and a couple of them were said to be some monsters in their day... just wish i could go shed hunt it atleast.....

That really sucks, loosing the property and the dough! I hope you guys have a goodalternate game plan for the future.Every year in Colorado, we watch our hunting properties dwindle. They re-zone this, some company buys that, we just keep loosing our property.

That stinks! Maybe there is a silver lining somewhere in this? Any other land nearby available--sounds like good gnetics in the vicinity? I hate it for ya.

What I don't understand and think is the real shame is why the need for the sharp shooters. If they are going to do something with the land could those animals not have migrated into the surrounding lands/preserves you mentioned? Definately sorry that you got screwed over too but killing those animals for ?? just irritates the crap out of me.

Yeah this sucks, and I know how you feel. What was their reason for purchasing the land, then killing so many deer? What was their point felt it needed to be done? Sounds really weird to me.
I hunted a family farm for yrs, that been in my families history since early 1900's. My grandfathers brother, my uncle owned the property, and we had a great relationship. I'd go over, and help him out, hang out and chat for hrs. I just really enjoyed it there. By far my favorite hunting spot. Well he passed on, and the property was left to his wife's children. My uncle had No children of his own. The kids that took overthe property had NO care in the world what happened to it. My whole family was in a uproar to keep it in our history. They wanted top dollar for it, and never even bothered to approach any of us to purchase it at a reasonable price. Unfortunately it was bought by someone who has $, and I was told I'm no longer allowed accesss to it. Gone forever. I know my uncle would be turning in his grave if knew this is what happened to it. He used to say to me that maybe someday this place will be yours. But I never felt right asking him the personal details of the property. I always thought he'd told me if needed to. Wished I had now.

I feel like kicking someone's a-- every time I read something like this. It's just not right. I can see this coming (not the sharpshooting part) where I live more and more every day. Land purchases are bringing top dollar probably 10 times what they did 5 years ago and the people with lots of money are buying it like crazy. The little man down here is fixing to get the squeeze.

I am sorry for you bro. Painful. I had a honey hole that got leased out from under me after a lot of hard work. I will be in debt until the day I die paying for my quarter that I bought.
