Ever had a bow.....

Have you ever had a bow you just can't part with?

Mine is a 2005 BowTech Allegiance..... I have bought 3 new bows since I purchased this one..... I just can't get enough of it and end up selling my newer bows and I keep shooting ole' Alley. The temptation of getting new bows is still there and I am sure sooner or later I will find a bow to replace Alley as my numer one choice, but I'm just not ready to let her go yet. She's a shooter [8D]

Fran's thread got me thinking.....

I really really liked my Patriot. I don't have it anymore, and it wasn't an ideal bow for target purposes but it was a fantastic hunting bow.

Yes, and I still have it. 2002 MAthews Ultra II. I just can't find any reason to get a new bow. It shoots fast, straight, and is extremely forgiving. And it has been pretty lucky. What more could I look for?

You're definitely right - you do get attached to things. I was putting away the Jennings last night, knowing full well that she may never hunt again, I actually got a lump in my throat. Pathetic, I know. It was almost ceremonial.

I'd still be out there with that bow if the cam didn't look like somebody took a chainsaw to it.

Oh yeah every time I hear Fran talk about C-monster... :DI think of ole "mod"

Ole "mod" (modest)was my first compound I took and elk and whitetail buck with. She's old, worn, scratched, no grip, just a riser to hang onto..kind of noisey when she lets 'er rip...but she still shoots straight and hard. I like the old dual wheel bows like herself. I've pretty much replaced everything on her a time or two from accessories to strings..she gets all the hand-me-downs from all the other new bows I have filtered through since the late 80's. She came out of retirement for me in 05 to put the hurt on a nice late seasonbuck. Quick there is hope for C-monster..:)

I still shootthis bow quite a bit in the summer, just incase something funny happens to the Liberty...

Funny you mention it - I can't seem to part with my 05 Allegiance either. I love this bow and at this time don't see myself ever getting rid of it. I think I'm going to keep it as my primary bow through this season and look at retiring it next year, providing another bow comes along that I enjoy shooting more.

Yessir, I do. It's a 2003 Hoyt Razortec. I thought about selling it and couldn't do it... so I sold it to my dad for an extremely low price. That way it's still available to me and I know that it will be used and taken care of... I guess it's worth more to me senitmentally than it is dollar wise.

Don't get rid of it!!!!

The first bow I ever owned is actually one I'll never sell. My dad got it for me when I turned 13. It is a custom made by Dave Barnsdale. It has a Browning riser, but Birdseye maple limbs. It's real long, 46 1/2" axle-to-axle, but I still really like it. Fun to shoot it once a while, especially around all of the super short modern bows.

That's cool Mike I wouldn't sell that one either, Birds eye maple isreally nice wood, my father had a sako 270 custom builtwith that wood...I stillhave my dads Original Allen compound and will never sell it either.

Shed, my dad has 1187 we got him with a curly maple stock. Great looking gun, but you need a hired hand to carry if through the woods for you!

The bow "I can't part with" at the moment is my 2007 Guardian. I've only been shooting for 2 years and the Guardian is my 4th bow.

2005 Diamond Victory (sold to buy the XT)
2006 Mathews XT (sold to buy the Drenalin)
2007 Mathews Drenalin (sold to buy the Guardian)
2007 Bowtech Guardian

You are a wise man Primitive! Selling those Mathews was the best decision you ever made!

I think my '07 Allegiance is going to be "the one", for me. I've only taken one shot at an animal with it.............

That is a really nice bow. Dave makes some good stuff. I actually spoke with him today ordering parts for the 3D bow I am currently building. Some of the custom limbs he has are truly awesome looking.

Definetly my PSE Firestorm. 2 reason: If i part with it, i wont have another bow to hunt with. also cuz I love it, I feel like it was built for me.

It's a 2003 Hoyt Razortec.
Same here. I have the '03 Razortec and plan on shooting it for quite a few more years. I get my money's worth for my bows before retiring them. My last bow was an '89 Golden Eagle SuperHawk Turbo. I hunted with it for 13 years before retiring it. It's resting in my basement as I write this!

He's making some sweet laminations now too, with different colors for the laminates, look really sweet from the side. He also has a new shoot-thru bow that is pretty neat.

I've made up my mind long ago that I'll never sell any of my guns or bows! I still have my first bow ever, an old Darton! I've made the mistake of selling a gun to by a different gun, I'll never do that again! I regret it to this day! I don't see me getting a new bow, my 05' Mighty Mite is the bow I'll be shooting for some time to come! :)

A 2002 Hoyt Ultratec.I have lost the bug to buy bows every couple of years because of the beating you take when you sell them.My Ultratec is all I could ever ask for in a bow,and I am very comfortable and confidant with it.
I have a beautiful Remington 700 mountain rifle that I have owned for four years and have never hunted with it.It is the most expensive rifle I own and has lots of gunsmithing in it,yet my rifle of nine years is a Browning A-bolt,still a nice rifle but the most important element is that I know it so well and am so comfortable with it and for me that translates in to enjoyment and success.
There is no right or wrong of course but I personally like to have my weapon be something I know extremely well from a competency point of view and a sentimental point of view.

That shoot through bow is pretty cool, the bow I am building right now is shoot through and is using Dave's cable spreader system that he calls doovawappi's (australian for thingamajig he says.....[8D]).

I sold off five bows last year... but couldn't sell my Allegiance. Mine's an '06, however, but I felt the same way about her as you do your '05.

I guess my '05 BT Patriot. Of course I've only had it a little more than a year, but it feels like an extension of my left arm when holding it at full draw. It may sound strange but one bow I definitely should have kept is an Oneida Lite Force Magnum. It was fun to shoot, accurate and smooth.

Mine is a 1995 ProLine Riptide. That company was WAY ahead of it's time....Now my dad shoots her, but I'll NEVER get rid of that bow. It's also the one I killed my first archery deer with.

I keep mine. Sold a .22 pistol once and regretted it. Not planning on doing that again... especially my bows. Course none of my bows are high dollars ones so wouldn't havegained much anyways if I had sold them.
