Don't Throw Away Those Old Bear Razorheads

I was cleaning out some stuff tonight and ran across a pack of Bear Razorheads from back in Ronald Regan's first term vintage. Was going to toss them, and my 14 year old son asked if they were still good. I explained how they were one of the first heads with removable inserts and had killed hundreds of game animals (some very large) back when a recurve was a "modern" bow.

We decided to shoot a few out of Max's new Fred Bear Element before tossing them. Since the headsweighquite a bit, I decided to remove the inserts and shoot them as a two blade head. Even without the inserts, they weigh 145 grains. To my utter amazement, they shot to the same group as the 100 grain field points. And grouped under 2" at 25 yards. Flying straight. I got to thinking about some of the game old Fred Bear harvested with these . . . . . with his 60 lb. recurve bow, I doubt if he was getting 200 fps. I'm probably right at this mark with a new solocam bow, 12 lbs. lighter pull, shooting a carbon arrow. FOC is probably 20%. We may hunt with these. I remember them being fairly easy to sharpen.

One of my favorite broadheads.I still hunt with some that are at least 30yrs old. They sharpen with a file easy, fly great and will definitely do the job.

Yep.......first head I ever seriously cut my finger with. LOL
Cut my pinky to the knuckle. [:'(]

If you decide not to hunt with them I'll be glad to screw them into my Recurve arrows.;)

Thanks for the offer, but I think we may hunt with them. I have been a little concerned about getting a pass through on elk from lower poundage bows - don't think that is going to be an issue with these :)

Throw them away? I've been hunting with them since the mid 80's!

I took my 2005 bow buck with one, shot a couple of does with them in '06.

I keep at least one of them in the quiver of my compound at all times.

I had to throw one away this year as it got bent.:(

Those broadheads are bad ass!!!!!!. I killed several deer and hogs with them getting pass throughs on all but one hog. You can't go wrong hunting with them.
