Sorry to hear about that.. I have seen and been in similar situations and they can be very tough.

You're not responsible for their actions.

That's terrible.

Don't beat yourself up for it. If you're an ethical hunter you have nothing to worry about. Its a good thing poaching isn't genetic, eh? ;)

What a shame......do not let it it eat you up. Do not know how I would react if it was me.

Mark, to get that kind of coverage, wouldn't it have had to be large scale?

Mark,

I look forward to Hunting with you and Casey in Texas. Bring your IBEP stuff-I need a crash course..

They come from all walks and all families...I just do not know why? There's a lesson here-I'm sure of that!

Chin up Buddy! See you in Texas!

1. Why would you go talking about?

2. Relax - it is not an atrocity.

3. Why would you be ashamed or embarrassedfor the actions of others
who you haveno control over?

I've always said, "Try to take something positive from a negative."Now you are related to some "famous" people.

If you feel these folk have embarrassed you and your family, especially since you'll be teaching IBEP (whatever that is - like hunter safety education?). I teach here in Illinois and maybe you should give them a call and thank them. Let them know that they are going to be a big part of your cirriculum.

Another question comes to mind................

why is this posted in the Bowhunting forum? The article said a .30-30 - not bow.

But wouldn't the Deer Hunting forum be more appropriate even though they weren't hunting as there is no Poaching forum?

Maybe there should be a Poaching Forum - kind of like a Wall of Shame.

You're not responsible for their actions.

You can't control what they've done and it doesn't make you a bad person for what they've done either. I can understand your frustration though.

Thats too bad man, but you didn't have anything to do with it, so don't kick yourself regarding it. I still get a kick out of the media again reporting that a .30-.30 is a high powered rifle. Idiots.

Why is this all about you? It's really all about what they did? Use it in your new career but don't make it about yourself. My .02

Haven't been through it and feel for you. But they can't hold you responsible for their actions. Just like the bad guy who goes to prison, yes stigma there, but it is not you and it looks like you are one of the good guys as proof of being an instructor. One thing to do to make sure someone doesn't bring it up or try to undermine you is to make mention of it the first day, and remind them you are not them and that it is better to be a good guy or be a poacher! Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty??

This thread is not only in VERY poor taste...........but also VERY poor judgement.

I can't even imagine treating a family member that way...........all you care about is yourself. Try being supportive of your family instead of embarassing them in public because "you" need a hug.

What a revolting thread.

It seems that guys will often get compared to the likes of murderers and rapists around here at the simple mention of the 'P' word.

Everyone has in-laws and out-laws. Unfortunitly we have to take both with life. When you start your job do it with pride.

RE: My Uncle the Poacher

Atlas, I agree and disagree with what you said.

I agree that posting this on here was probably not something I would do, because my family would not need any more public humility coming from me.

On the other hand, what happened to being responsible for your actions. This sounds like a pretty open and shut case from the article. You accuse Jeremiah about making this all about himself, but his uncle and cousin were much more selfish. Not only because they killed all those deer illegally, but also because now Jeremiahwill always get sideways glances and whispers behind his back because of what his family has done, regardless of how good of a person he is. There will always be those that judge him based on this event. His uncle didn't consider that, or how it would affect his family, let alone the black eye it leaves on the rest of the hunting community. That was irresponsibe, selfish, illegal, immoral, and just plain stupid.

Jeremiah, I feel for you and hope this does not have too much of a negative effect on you or your future plans. In the future, you may want to keep things like this under your hat though. Sometimes negative things will go away more quickly if they are not brought to light. Just my .02.

Good luck.
