How many of you guys have bow presses?
I am trying to convince myself that I should have one for some reason...........I have mostly everything else but for any string work it's off to the shop for me.
Is it worth it??..........how much do you guys use them? |
RE: How many of you guys have bow presses?
Its worth it. ALthough, with a martin bow, you don't need one, just undo the limb bolts far enough.

I have one and use it quite often. Would hate to not have one as much as I
tinker with bows. |

I have one and just needing it once makes it worth it to me.

I don't, but fortunately I have access to one at the shop I work at. It's definetly worth it, especially if you want to do your own work. There are some things that obviously require a press, and it sure would be nice to have one on hand for those quick fixes. New string silencers, new peep, whatever...

RE: How many of you guys have bow presses?
I have a portable from WWAG and I'm going to buy a shop press from Toad as well . I use mine quite a bit as for putting in peep's and changing string's quite often . I take my portable on hunt's with me since it fit's behind the seat of my truck ,nice thing to have when your mile's into the bush . I often tell guy'sI hunt with that they need to have a backup string. 2 season's ago one of the guy's cut his string with a broadhead and had no backup with him ,luckily one of the other's had a backup bow for him to use .And again since the string wasn't cut right through ,it was just to dangerous to shoot . I just put it in the press and took the string off before it blew up on him.

Atlas,
I have had a press at as part of my home shop for years. I's worth it and you don't have to spend a small fortune to get a good one. The one I have cost $115.00 on e-bay. There are also lots of do-it-yourself plans out there. I'll find the link for the one I have. I'm not trying to sell anything for anyone, Just a good press for not alot of $. |
RE: How many of you guys have bow presses?
We have 2 one of WWAG's portables that goes hunting and to 3d shoots with us and the other is a nock off of the Sur-Loc Xpress.
They both get a good work out and are well worth the money. I have used both for working on friends bows from a simple peep install to a major take down and rebuild. I'm going to buy a shop press from Toad as well I think you will find that Toad is not making presses anymore there was a thread up on AT a while ago saying one of the big guys threatened a law suit so he stopped making them. |
RE: How many of you guys have bow presses?
I am not a tinkerer by any stretch, so its maybe once or twice a yea I use mine, but anyonewho wants to do all thier work should have one. Whether its changing strings, setting your peep, installing string leeches, having a press makes things simple and easy. Plus having one saves you from having to find or make time to get to a shop to get your bow fixed/changed.
