RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I am VERY methodical with scent control and gear associated with it. My basic clothes setup consists of X scent base layers, maybe some extra fleece under layers on top depending on temp, a Scent Lok savannah coverall, and then a noscent fleece jacket on top of it all. I don't put clothes on in the house, and have been known to pack most of my clothes in as well if I think I may break a sweat on the way in. I wash everything once a week in no scent detergent, and I store everything in air/water tight scent lok bags. I spray everything from the bottom of my boots to my head before I head in the woods, and again once I am in the stand with a scent killer type spray. I make a big effort to control this stuff because I believe in it. I also hunt stand locations based upon wind conditions and am fortunate enough to have access to seperate properties that have multiple stand for multiple hunters based on wind direction. With all this said..........................................we all know that sometimes wind changes once we are in the tree and deer are already on their way in and sometimes they come from unexpected directions. These are the scenarios that I feel newer carbon garments are worth the $$$.
I will say the first year I used my scent lok (last year, 05' to 06' season) I ended up with unplanned deer down wind and I don't remember getting winded once. In the same exact stands in the same exact scenarios I got picked off a couple times when deer came in from unplanned locations during the 06-07 season. My suit is about 2 years old and I wash it once a week during season. I do believe it worked well when new, however I don't believe it lasted as long or recharges as easily as they say. I can say that when it was newer, I think it worked very well in scenarios when I should have been winded. I am the type of hunter that if I can see something that I honestly believe will increase my chances of being a more effective hunter I will find a way to get the $$ for it. I will probably retire my current savannah coverall for the 07' season and go to a more open pattern of some sort (predator, sticks/limbs, ASAT, or Enigma) and continue to use my current X scent underlayer system and will probably buy a new scent lok base layer system. The base layers when bought during off season are pretty reasonable in price, especially when compared to an underarmor under layer system w/ no scent control at all. Just MHO based upon my experience and yes I have read all the controversial threads on the stuff. |

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I don't, it seems to pricey. I wash my clothes in sent-a-way and don't put them on until I reach my destination. Then spray everything once I'm dressed. This works great for me. I've had deer come in from all directions no matter the wind direction. Plus, I get up in the tree as high as I can.

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I do. I also am very meticulous about scent control. Shower/bathe before each hunt, including my hair. I also wear base layers, spray my boots, harness, back pack and bowwith scent killer. And I play the wind. It has been my experience that when I've gotten busted, it's been from my movement. When its hot out, like early season, I don't wear the scent lock, but all the rest I continue to do. I've had deer come and stay around my stand for quite some time without ever looking up or knowing I was there. Have even had 2 young bucks, when hunting in Ill., bed down 20 and 30 yards from me, for as long as 6 hours. I had done everything I described above including the scent lok. So I have to say the whole package works.

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
Sometimes I wear it and sometimes I don't. The suit I have is not for early season so I wear it only in cooler temps. I'll probably end up getting one of the suits for warmer weather. I've hunted plenty without it so I've NEVER considered it a necessity, only a preference based on my experiences with it in the field. I also have the silver impregnated stuff top and bottom that I wore early this past season. I didn't seem to have much luck with that, having been busted a few times. But I'm still going to wear it and see how it goes. I don't wash my scentlok stuff much, once or twice a season. I try to keep it in a scent bag and not sweat in it when wearing. I think sweat is the major contamination that will ruin the suit. I also have gloves and, to me, the most important piece is the scentlok face mask. The facemask will obviously lose its effectiveness the quickest followed by the gloves. I like to chew Copenhagen when I'm hunting and my experiences (not using scent clothing) have been that I got busted less when I didn't chew. I've found using the scent face mask I'm able to chew and still have deer in my face. Even in warmer weather when I'm not wearing the suit I still wear the mask. I've got a Scentlok Leafy 3D suit, a couple of scentlok gloves, and Scentlok half mask and Scentlok 3D full head cover mask. I normally wear the full head cover, which had a very small brim (almost none). I've found the deer seem to be able to pick out my eyes when wearing the full head cover. Haven't had any bolt but have had some look around and get that surprised look once they spot my eye area, usually end up walking away. I have always worn the camo bucket hats and found if I put it on over the head mask it provides enough shade that they don't pick out my eyes.

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I use it but do think it has it's limits, use it as a tool and you will be happy with it...The wind, showers, sprays are the tools we all use!!!

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I REFUSE TO GO WITHOUT... JUST MY PREFERANCE.

RE: Scent Lok.... Who wears it?
I USED IT THIS PAST SEASON AND DIDN'T KNOW IF IT MADE A DIFFERENCE OR NOT.I ALSO USE SCENT ELIMINATOR SPRAY AND OTHER MEANS OF SCENT CONTROL!!!
