Sheds...WIERD! and more Sheds

I went out today to do a little shed hunting. I ended up finding one 4 point side. When i picked it up i thought it looked aweful familiar to the one that i had found back in early december when i was goose hunthing, but i couldnt remember if it was the same side or opposite sides. Just got back to the house and it turns out that it was definately from the same deer. Crazy that i found it 3 months later and it hadnt been chewed on at all!

Found another onetoday. Looks like it was from last year...it waschewed uppretty bad

That is a good find, how long do you suppose he could have carried the second part of the rack before shedding it?

It is strange that some can be in the woods a few weeks and be chewed up and others can lay there for a year and not be touched.

This was a deer that my daughter LOST a year(all most to the day) from when it was found by the farmer.

There wasn't 1 single bite mark.

How far apart were they?

The biggest one I found was 106 3/8" and the other side was found 5 months later and .8 of a mile away. I was amazed that he didn't drop them closer, being that they were that big.

I have noticed that when i find dead heads that the animals seem to leave them alone and hardly every chew on them...

They were probably a half mile away...pretty crazy. The one i found today didnt have any waxy residue or hair at the base. Looks like it had bee dropped for a while

Well i think that it has a lot to do with if it has the skin and meat still on it. If so i think the squirrels will stay away...

Mike,

Thats cool man...good find.

I have found a couple sets a year apart and one set two years apart.

Below is a twopic displayof a shed I found that I nicknamed candlestick buck. I looked and looked for the other side hoping it would have a base like the candle stick.. 2 shed seasons after first finding the candle stick buck shed I went back in and by accident stepped over a blowdowned tree. About 50 yards from where I had picked up the candlestick shed. I felt something under the tree with the tip of my boot. It moved, reaching under the semi-suspended blowdown, I pulled out the other side to the candlestick buck .... It was well perserved from all the grass and tree covering it. No chews! 2 years!

The last photo is a set I found one year apart..after going back to the same area..about 300 yards from the first shed...the brown...No chews on the year old shed...just discolored from the sun..

Here is a pic of a shed I found during squirrel season in September ... the base is gone, but the rest is in pretty good shape ... that was lying around all spring and summer ....

Talking about something weird. My uncle find a deer skull on his property thathad a broadhead lodged in the middle of the skull. It was inside the nasal cavity. The arrow was no where to be found. The broadhead seemed to be very old. I wish i had a pic of it. I might try to get one next time I'm back home.

Troy,

The dark part was stuck in the mud for all those months .... that's a pretty good buck for my area ....11 1/2" G2 .... We have seen a monster in that area this past season ...I am hoping he is still around ...we'll be looking for his sheds now that the snow has mostly melted ...

RE: Sheds...WIERD!

Here ya go Tony, In the first pic the one on the left was found in a swampy area and had layed in the mucky wet area. both are the same bucks from two different seasons but i found them same year,2005. The darker one laid for a year. you would think that it would bleached out after a year.

This one i found several weeks ago. It laid in the water and wet leaves giving it dark racing stripes:D

I've had a good year. Here are some pics. Think I've found seven. A friend of mine has also found seven on my property. The ones that he found are huge.

RE: Sheds...WIERD!

I found these last year. Thought I would post them 'cause they look just like the two on the bottom in the first pic, except these are bigger. They were found in the same spot.
