How long is your archery-deer season?

This has probably been asked a few times, but....

I'm from Illinois and ours goes from Oct 1st until mid January with time out for a couple of shotgun weekends.

What's yours like? (If I move out of state, I want at least as long of a season as I have here.) :)

Keep 'em all in the Bull.

This year.... Sept 14 - Jan 31.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> If you count the fact I started bowhunting on a crop damage permit the first week in July the past couple years I guess that would be July 4 - Jan 31(although I usually only shoot one on Crop Damage and quit until the regular season). <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> After a while you get tired of it.NOT!!! I only went twice in the past week. I haven't really been in my killin' mode lately, but I do have to shoot one more for the freezer. So, the next good shot that shows up I'm taking.

Ohio runs from the first Saturday in Oct. to Jan 31 with no breaks. Hopefully it stays that long but Ohio allows crossbows in during bowseason. They now account for more deer taken than longbows.

Texas has a 30 day &quot;bow only&quot; season that starts the last weekend of Sep. There is one week off before the general seaon starts the first weekend of November and continues until the weekend after New Years. The general season can be hunted with either bow or firearms.

Im from Missouri and the season lasts until Jan. 15. I also hunt in Illinois. If I can find some good land to hunt I want to get a Non-resident tag in Arkansas, their season lasts until the end of Feb. As far as I know that is the longest bow season in the country. For whitetailed deer that is.

South Dakota is about the 3rd Saturday in September to December 31st - with antlerless tags extended till (now I forget...) either the 15th or 31st of January which is GREAT... This lets a guy hunt for a buck all year & then fill an antlerless tag AFTER buck season closes - but I prefer to take my 1st doe early & get some fresh jerky & sticks done up for the season... Rifle & Muzzleloader come in & out during nov/dec but archery doesn't close.

Minnesota (home) is typically the 2nd week of Sept thru Dec 31 with rifle season for 16 days in early November & Muzzleloader to follow around Thanksgiving for a few weeks.

Deer season starts first week of September for Saskatchewan residents. Mule deer closes about mid-November and whitetail first Saturday in December. Your fun is tempered only by the early season bugs and the late season &quot;freshness&quot;. Fun, nevertheless!

Michigan runs from oct 1st through jan 1st. Technically it closes for 15 days in nov, (nov 15th-30th) for the firearm season but a person can hunt with a bow during that time they just have to wear orange and abide by firearm season rules. A person can buy either a combo license which is good for two bucks, or a single license good for only one buck. Single licenses are designated for firearm season or archery season, and you can not go back and purchase a second license for that same season even though you are allowed to kill two bucks. If you elect to go the single license way, you will have to fill one tag during bow season and one during firearm season. If you want to take two bucks during the bow season, or two during firearm season you need to purchase a combo license. (weird rules eh?) Of your bucks only one buck can have less than four points on each side. The second buck has to have four or more antler points on at least one side. One can also apply for doe permits for public or private land until august 1st. And after sept 24th if there are any left over permits a person can buy them over the counter, one per day, until the quota has been reached for that deer management unit.

The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend

DAVIDMIL: I can't remember where you're from and you didn't mention it in your post.

I'm really glad I asked this, as I had no idea that they varied so much from state to state. Thanks for the info and keep it coming. I'm going to keep this on file.

Keep 'em all in the Bull.

Oklahoma starts Oct. 1st and runs to Nov. 20 then takes 9 days off for gun season then starts back up the first of Dec. and goes to the end of Dec. We just added a special doe only season from Jan 1 to Jan. 15. There is a Primitive season the last nine days of Oct. but you can bow hunt during than time you just have to were orange. You are allowed 4 does and 2 bucks. The only thing I wish they would do is move the deer gun season back to the first 9 days of Dec. so it wouldn't coinside w/ the rut. It seems that a lot of the states that have more trophy deer seem to have there gun season after the rut.

TN starts the 4th weekend in September and you can use a bow all the way until the 1st week of January. The only time you can't is during the youth hunt weekend, when there's no adult hunting.
