Here's a picture of the loop style I use on every bow I own.......3D or hunting. You can see how the larger nock set below allows for a straight line pull behind your arrow's nock by looking at the bend of the loop.
I know it might seem like splitting hairs to most guys........but that's me.

Thats definitely a good idea, Matt. I've honestly never had anyone explain to my why they do it one way versus the other. I plan on picking a few things up at the Big Horn show next weekend so I guess I'll be picking up some new serving material and a bit of d-loop material too.

Yes, it's splitting hairs but I like that.
And thanks, I figure if you are spending as much money as all this crap costs, for a bow, top end sights, arrows, broadheads etc etc etc.........it doesn't make sense to not pay as much attention to your set-up and tuning as possible.Will it make a difference to have a loop like I tie vs what is commonly called a "Redneck Loop"

For most applications probably nothing you'd ever notice if your goal is to ventilate a whitetail at 13yards, but I want to give my self every advantage possible on a 3D course or in the woods....... and when you reach a certain level of proficiency in shooting it boils down to all the small details to keep yourself from leveling off in your ability.You reach a certain point where it really becomes attention to detail to advance andperform at the highest level you are capable of.
Attention to detail in your equipment, form and tuning.

That's a GREAT-LOOKING job, early! That D-loop certainly looked like it pulled up tight, too -- and made some nice melted balls to keep from pulling through... what kind is it?

If you tie the bottom nock set 2/3 longer than the top it will center your release directly behind the nock itself promoting the best possible nock travel. With a standard loop or one with evenly tied nock sets your release will always pull slightly above your arrow's nock at an angle.

Way to go, early. Very nice job. The loop looks just a tad longer than I prefer. I like mine to just clear the nock. I also burn the ends so they don't stick out much. Don't take that wrong, you did a great job. Now you know how and once you start playing around with it you'll figure out what you like and don't.

Here's food for thought. Michael Braden was tearing up the 3-D competition a few years ago with a loop that had both ends tied below the arrow knock and a tied knock above the arrow knock.
Does the release have to be directly behind the arrow knock? Only ifit gives you peace of mind.
I'm with mobo,I did use tied in knocks before but quit and haven't had problems.
