125 Vs 100's
Hello All!
Yesterday I was at the range and even though I had always shoot with 100gr points, I decided I wanted to try 125gr, and the arrows were hitting the same places that the 100's!! Its the 1st time I change the weight of my points...if they hit the same area, should I get the 125grs broadheads instead the 100's?? Is there really a difference between the two? Thanks! |
RE: 125 Vs 100's
25gr will not make a hill of beans difference... choose which ever shoots tighter groups more consistantly

RE: 125 Vs 100's
Did you try any shots out around 40 yards or more?

RE: 125 Vs 100's
Going up or down 25 grains in tip weight will affect the spine of the arrow. Have you looked at a chart to see what draw weight is called for that arrow at that length with that weight point? I would stay with whatever weight point fall closest to being ideal for your bow with that arrow. Done any paper tuning?
Then there is the whole FOC issue. |
RE: 125 Vs 100's
No, I just try it to 30 since I was already tired and did not want to mess up with form...but I will try to shoot farther next time and see if there is a drastic change...
I want to get some of these in 125 gr...Recomendable?? ![]() |
RE: 125 Vs 100's
Roskoe,
I did tune my bow to the 100grs, but I wanted to try the 125gr points...seems like the 125 hit the same area than the 100's...at least to 30 yrds... Do you know where I can check that table?...I use the ICS Ventura 340, 29" @ 70#...I'm just looking for the most penetration I can get to get myself a wild pig... Any comments are welcome, thank you! ORIGINAL: Rookie Bowhunter Recomendable?? If you really want penetration try a 300 deflection rated shaft with the 220 grain head. |
RE: 125 Vs 100's
Sounds like you might be able to use either one in this case. I would also recommend you move out to some distance and see which one shoots best. 125 is going to penetrate a little better - 100 will shoot a bit flatter - I would probably err on the side of penetration if everything else seems like a toss up.

RE: 125 Vs 100's
Thanks Roskoe! I will try from farther...like you say, "A man has got to know his limitations . . ."
