THE QUEST IS OVER

Let me start this story off by saying that what happened as made me sick to my stomach.
Yesterday I was out pounding the pavement looking for a job and found a pro shop in Indianola, about a hour's drive from my house. I had no money on me, no checks, and I don't use credit cards (all maxed out) I went in anyway just to see what they had. They are by far the best pro shop I've found so far. They carry the Mathews and Martins lines. The guy I talked to (Jim) was really nice and listened as a I explained myself. He measured my draw length and came up with 28" instead of the 30" I was told mine was. Hw suggested the Martin bows and was showing them to me. I didn't know anything about them. Remember I was looking at Mathews, Hoyt , or PSE. He told me the same story about Hoyt that BASSERMAN had said on my other post. He said they used to carry Hoyt, but had too many problems with customer service. Anyway, Jim tells me he shoots a Martin Phantom. There's one on the shelf so I pick it up. I have never felt a bow so light. It was like it wasn't even there. I draw it back felt really good. And them WHAM! It slipped. Accidental dry fire. Can you believe it? And of course as with any reputatble dealer there is a sign on the wall. "If you dry fire a bow, you bought it" I felt like an absolute idiot! I apologized like you wouldn't believe to Jim and to the owner. They asked me if I had money to put down on the bow. Finally I was able to assure them that I would buy the bow and left them with my name, address, phone number, and email address. The owner was real nice about it. He said he came across this problem once before and he gave the guy 60 days to pay it off. So anyway, My new bow is a Martin Phantom II. Not a bad price either $379.00. But that's just for the bow. So now I'm going to stand up and turn around so all of you can line up and take turns kicking the south side of my equator for doing such a stupid thing.

KEEP IT LEGAL. KEEP IT SAFE. OR WE MAY NOT GET TO KEEP IT AT ALL.

Dude don't beat yourself up to bad over the dryfire those things happen. The part that I think that sucks is now you really don't get to make the choice between bows but have to take this one.

Hey, it sounds like it was meant to be.

I think you will be pleased with the bow.

Make sure you have it thoroughly checked though as part of the deal.

So how in the "HECK" can anyone dryfire a bow. I've been at this stuff for over 30 years. I've pulled a lot of bows. SO..... HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN.

Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck......

I was working the booth at the Congressional Shoot just outside of D.C. this summer. In attendance were Congressmen, Senators, their families, local archery experts, All the pros going to the Great Outdoor Games(it was a qualifier for them) and plenty of people like me(old and been around a few bows). So I'm handing out bows to beginning Congressmen and their families. We had set all weights and had tags on them but some fell off. I pulled about a 35 pound bow back to check weight..... WHAMO I dried fired that puppy in front of all the Gods and their people. An hour later a little wiser I put an arrow on the string of a bow, pointed it at the ground under Lens trailer and accidently tripped the release. Off the string, off the asphalt, off the bottom of the trailer a couple times, and back off the asphalt and into the trees on the other side. SLOWLY I sunk to the ground and crawled under a big rock. Stuff happens. I never saw a sign in a proshop that says you dry fire it you bought it. Until this summer I had never dried fired a bow in over 30 years of playing with them.

Budbowhunter I can imagine the sick feeling in your stomach when the bow dry fired, being out of work is bad enough, but when you dig your self deeper in debt by a momentary slipup just makes it worse.

I hope things turn around for you soon and it may have been that bows way of telling you "I am the one for you".

Hey Bud,
Sounds like destiny to me brother. If I remember you were looking at the Hoyts and Matthews??? Sounds like you saved yourself about $3-400!LOL! Probably coulda been better timing though. Martin makes a fine bow I think you'll be happy with it.
