Fletching with Drinking Straws
 

I saw this over on AT and found it interesting. From what they say it works pretty well. I might actually try it when i get my bow with some junk arrows.....you wouldnt need a jig for em ;)

As far as I know they were only tested on field tips. I doubt very highly that they would steer a broadhead accurately.

Kinda ugly, too. :D

I've been trying a thing called a FOB (stands for Fletching Only Better)that I found at www.starrflight.com that isn't too far from this, andI have been pretty impressed thus far. I'll let you know in this forum what my final choice for hunting will be, but the reduced crosswind drift has been significant. I've shot at 80 and 100 yards for the past couple of weeks, and the FOB is needing only about 1/4 the adjustment for wind that I normally do for 4" vanes.

The FOB's fall off during a pass thru shot on a deer making it difficult to find your arrow and subsequent blood trail. perhapswith a very brightly colored arrow this wouldn't make a difference.

Would I be correct in saying that the only rest you could shoot these through would be a drop away?

Obviously on a double prong rest there would be fletching/prong contact.

With a WB, I would imagine that becauseof the extreme helical of the vanes, it would be more difficult for the vane to "sift" through the fibers.

Hey, if you get bored, you can always take three off and shoot spitwads from your stand at the squirrels. COOL IDEA!

maybe you could use pixie sticks, and leave a purple and green and pink powder trail like a jet as your arrow approaches the deer.

I think the FOBs would be OK with a pass through as long as you use bright wraps. I'm sticking with Blazers and cheap automotive reflective tape from wally world. $1.97 a roll. A 4" wrap adds 7gr. of weight, they are very reflective and vanes stick to them well. Also they scrape off easily.
