what is the farthest you shot a squirrel
 

I went ground squirrel shooting last week and I shottwo at 30yds another at 20yds I tried to get one at 50yds but the closest I got was 5 in. from his head.How far would you shoot them with a bow???

ive only shot one or two squirrels, but the one shot was about 10 yards off the side of the tree, and the other was 23 yards.

i shot one about 50 ft, but he won't let me catch him any more after that.

Shot one about 50yards once, but the coolest by far was one at about 3 yards with a rocket mini blaster 1 3/4 inch cut. Needless to say it pretty much field dressed him.

25 yards with a field point.He was on the ground facing away from me.I don't need to tell you where the entry hole was! :)

Tryed for them with the bow a few times but haven't connected on one yet. I call em' the Elusive Tree Rat of the North.

the farthest one i shot was 36 yards...i had a junk arrow knocked and bet my buddy i couldn't hit the ol' black bandit on the tree, sure enough i got him...hit the side of this wierd soft barked tree, went through and nailed him...it was a remarkable shot in my opinion

I shot one at 40 yards because a friend dared me and said i couldn't . I got to admit it was a lucky shot at that range

This makes me think about that other thread that was up here a few days ago about "your max range" on a game animal. It's funny how different gameanimals get treated with different levels of respect. The much admired whitetail deer would hardly get shot at past 30 yds (according to many of the replies on that thread) but if it is a squirrel, Fire At Will!! Certainly if you put a post that said you shot at a deer over a bet you would get burned at the stake, but those pesky squirrels, who cares.
Don't get me wrong, to each their own, as far as shot selection on whatever game you choose to hunt. I justnever understand how people almost worship the whitetail and have all these posts about how they wouldn't shoot past certain distances or take certain shotsbecause they haveso much respect for the deer("I have so much respect for you oh majestic whitetail that I want to kill you and eat you). Is there a double standard with game animalsor am I just reading into this too much?

Ive never tried, but i keep telling myself that im going to, i just cant justify wasting a broadhead on one of those tree rats. Next fall its on.

I was in my tree stand once and the little tree rat of the north would not stop barking at me (you like they do that is very annoying) so I stuck him right in the side of the tree with a field point. 15 yrd shot. Damn thing about it is I had to get a ladder to get my arrow back. Little pesky rodents!

37 yards with a old arrow. The stupid thing kept running around my tree all morning making all kinds of racket and I was about to get down and decided he wouldn't be making anymore noise, double lunged him, he made about 5 spins around my arrow then it was all over

I think you're spot on. That's why nobody is replying to you.Some people just don't care when it comes to critters outside of deer. I suppose they can do whatever they want so long as it's legal.

For me, well refer to the signature.

For the guys making use of their kill, that's great.

Maybe one small aspect of the topic is that you don't see many squirrels, prarie dogs, etc. running around wounded. There gonna die on the spot pretty much wherever you hit-em(gun or bow,20yds, or 500yds). The whitetail is much larger, and stronger. They can live with a broadhead lodged in them, they can live with 3 legs, they can live riddled with a poorly placed buckshot load, they can live with apoorly placed arrow shot, and they can evenlive with an arrow lodged in them, or broken off. They suffer greatly, but they'll still live.This is what gets all of the bad publicity, and this is why it's so important to have an absolute clean shot on a whitetail. Squirrels and such, are simply considered pests.It really stinks for them , but it's true. There no different than a rat,except they climb trees. Every one loves to kill rats.
