That's some good info TFox. I would only add that I found putting a piece of masking tape on my rest and marking the starting point of where I go from getting it close with paper tuning and using the walk off method has help me tremendously. The markings on my rest begin to look the same after a few adjustments.

I have precision scales(rulers) that I use to measure the distance of the rest from an easily measured source.From the end of the shaft usually works well.
