Yep, it's accurate. Provided, that is, that the archery shops meter is calibrated. I read the display as the tech shot it. It was actually 299.8, but we'll say 300. I was a little worried about beginning with a top-end bow, but no more. It's incredibly easy to shoot.

As far as arrow weights go, my bow tells me when the arrow is too light because it starts getting louder. At 5.5 grains per pound, the arrow is fast, but I don't like how loud my bow sounds. At 7.5 grains per pound, she's whisper quiet and fast enough (260 fps) with a TON of KE. I've also found that with a slightly out of tune bow, fixed blade broadheads will fly alot better at 260 than 300 fps. Since I rarely take shots at deer past 25 yards, 260 is plenty fast for me.
