Ghillie suit

Hey guys...has anyone out there or does anyone use a ghillie suit. I still hunt a lot and really like the looks of them. Cabella sells them at a good price. Thanks!

I havn't used one of those suit's. They do look very nice. I would think that they are pretty hot. I'm not sure how breathable. I would use one for antelope hunting I guess.
I just stick to Natural Gear Camo. It's by far the best over the rest. Check em out, you'll be suprised......

I have also heard they are really hot. I guess if the weather is cold it would be ok. I can't imagine drawing a bow in one though.

Scottsman,
I use my ghillie suit for turkey season every year. I borrow it from my dad who had to make it for a sniper course for his SWAT training. He took potato sacks a sliced them lengthwise to get pieces about 14" X 1.5". He then got some basic army green camo and sewed them all over the top piece, and a basic headnet. He didn't even bother sewing them to the pants. It is a great suit, but I smell like a burlap bag. It cost him about 10 bucks for materials, including the camo, but it took him quite a while to make. Just an idea.

Here is a link to build your own. Very simple and you can customize yours for bow hunting instead of buying one.

that or if you want a cooler version make it out of the fish style netting. Tie the burlap right to it. Then you can regulate even more what you wear underneath, or lack there of.......

I really think it would be difficult to shoot a bow with one of these suits on! If not I would like to know who has had success with one.

heard of guys trimming the shooting arm and also the chest areas. I havent made one but plan on doing so in the future if nothing more then for fun. Kinda looooong winters, gots tons to do however right now..to many LOL. There was a write up in one of the past primitive archer magazines with a guy in a ghille suit, dead turkey, and a self bow so I know they can work!

GO to the military surplus store and get an OD green flight suit. Get some of the canvas burlap camo, and the screen camo, cut to strips and sew in place. I guess you'll have to make an appropriate headress using one of those screen headgear camo.

If you make it with a large flight suit you can wear clothes underneath in cold weather and less in warm weather.

Have not done it yet, but considering it. Get a baggy suit to leave room to draw your bow.
