Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
Anyone have either one of these sights? I think I am narrowed down to these 2 but any other suggestions would be welcome for a hunting/3D sight.
I like them both and I'm not really sure if either has any negatives. The Viper ![]() The G5 ![]() |
RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I would not reccommend that G5 to anyone.
have you had a chance to check it out in person? Those pins are about as bright as I am when it comes to adding my 5-spot scores. They aren't bright at all without a light on them. If you plan on hunting any low light times, I wouldn't use this sight. I can't say anything about the Viper as I haven't seen/used it. |
RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I have an Optix, it is a sweet sight. Very light and the micro adjustments work great on it.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
You know.. I was actually just about to post on this same topic.:) I hope I can get some honest answers on the G5.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I'm in precisely the same quandry......I was also looking at the G5 sight, but from what I hear, it's better if you can slide the sight out away from the riser, like on the Viper.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I like the viper. Those long fibers bother me though. How do you take the head of the site off? Changing a pin seem like it would be a job. I've seen some of the .10 pins in the viper broken. Maybe they are too fragile.
G5's seem to short for me, buta good workingmicro adjust is important. |

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I don't have any experience with the G5 but I do have (2) of the Vipers and they are an excellent sight. The pins are very dim on the G5 sights I have looked at though and even though they bright, I replaced the factory fibers in my Viperwith Fitz fibers.
The pins are easy to change and if someone broke a pin onthe Viperthey were definitely doing something they shouldn't have been doing, they are very beefy stainless pins. |

If you want some photos or have any specific questions I'd be more than happy to help. BTW I don't think the pins are near as dim as everyone is making them out to be. |

For what it's worth. I can't say enough good things about the Viper.

No.. sorry atlas.. I am a Hoyt man. I think the Bowtechs are awesome, but my motto is "if it ain't broke don't fix it.";)
Let me know which sight you choose. |

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I don't really want my sight sticking out that far from a hunting bow like the Viper looks like it does.
Too easy to hit/hook/snag it on stuff in the woods or pulling the bow up to your stand. I like my Trophy Ridge I have been using for the last couple years. I will be putting a G5 on my new bow and see how I like it. |

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I just ordered the Viper Sight.
Reasons: -Three different choices for pin size -micro tune -you can add a light in two different places (on the dovetail orsight window) -small sight window (easy to match peep to) They also have the PRO2000, they appear to be about the same. I should have mine (MICROTune)in a week or two. I'll let you know how well it works. |

Sorry I don't, It looks to be about 2 to 2.25 inches. That is a guess so don't quote me on that.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
Talked to the guy at Viper today (nice guy). I think I am leaning towards the Microtune with a Fitz fiber upgrade. I am trying to decide if I want to go with .029 pins for the top 2 and .019 for the bottom 2 or .019 and .010. I also don't really want to have to take the sight off when I put my bow in the case.
I went to Gander Mountain the other day and all their G5 sights were gone........I asked the guy what was up and he said G5 pulled them in a recall but he didn't know what it was for. Motown..........if you read this I checked out your Skylight sight and that thing is just plain cool.........do you knwo if it comes in Hardwoods HD?? The pins on that thing look like they are mechanically lit............amazing. |
RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
One thing to keep in mind guys, that predator sight to my knowledge has very limitedmicro adjust features, the micro adjust function is only for the gang adjustment of the entire pin guard and all pins. Most of the time the fine adjustments that micro adjust is nice for is usually needed for pin by pin adjustments from 20, 30, etc yard marks. On the predator each pin must still be adjustedmanually in the same manner as an old school copper john, sword apex, etc.........just like every other sight on the market. It is a good sight according to what I have heard, but don't buy it because of "micro" adjust features. Sword gives you pretty much the same thing minus the gang micro adjust feature for a LOT less $$$.
I still think the new Copper John is the best sight on the market right now in that price range. Pin by pin micro adjust, adjustable sight bar, 2nd and 3rd axis adjust, micro gang adjust, wrapped and shielded fitz type quality fiber around the pin guard, adjustable sight bar, etc............I have absolutely no monetary connections with Copper Johnand still think their product this year is truly awesome and will be paying full price for mine to compete with.Plus you would be supporting a local company Atlas....they are all designed and manufactured in Auburn, NY in the old bowling alley next to the prison. Lancaster Archery will have their first batch of them in the next 2 weeks, you can order from their website www.lancasterarchery.com. ![]() ![]() |

One of my buddies is the manager of the local Gander Mtn. I had him order it about a week ago. He ordered directly from CJ.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
I got the DN2 Comp 4 pin on order with Lancaster. They told me at first they would be getting them on Feb. 9th but every time I check they keep saying not yet. I hope I hear something soon. I really thought I would have this by now.

RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
Hey Rick where can you order from their sight? I don't see it anywhere.
|
RE: Viper Microtune or G5 Optix ME??
If anyone is going to order the Viper.....I'd suggest the .019 top and second pin.....and .010 3rd and 4ths. At those distances.....you don't want your pin coveringsuch a largespoton your intended target.
And for the record.....mine fits in my bow case just fine. |

Yea I'm probably going to end up getting the supreme. I gotta wait a few weeks anyway for the refund check to come in.

The viper is definately sweet. I have not used it but seen it and played with it a little and I love how far it extends and the brightness of pins.
