Youth Bow Recommendations
Hey guys,
My buddy is looking to buy his son his first bow. He is 12 and is a very thin framed kid. What is the suggested poundage and bow. Money is definetly an issue so it has to be affordable. Tom |
RE: Youth Bow Recommendations
Look at the Browning line...reasonably priced and great quality.

My dad bought me a fred recurve for like $80....
I think recurves and long bows intrigue the younger guys In hunting methods and tactics faster than getting caught up in the aspect of Bows. |
RE: Youth Bow Recommendations
Mathews Genesis is a pretty decent youth bow. No specific draw length so anyone can shoot it.Draw weightfrom 20-30#. My 9 year old is getting one for his birthday next month.

Here's a pic of my son at age 11 (left) and his friend at the club. It's hard to see but one arrow (son's) is in the heart, John's is in the lungs: ![]() |
RE: Youth Bow Recommendations
I would suggest a Browning bow. They make a micro midas line and they are fair on the price as well.

RE: Youth Bow Recommendations
A used hoyt rintec or the new hoyt trykon sport or trykon jr all have 8" of adjustable draw length so that a youth won't outgrow the bow. My boy really likes his rintec and he is 13. I see on hoyts website that they have replaced it with the above bows. Another bow that he started out with was the browning micro eclipse. He likes the hoyt better though.

Parker Buckshot. No bow press needed, you can set it from 18" draw toa 28" draw in 2 minutes. Send it off to Parker and they will up the poundage in the limbs fo 49$. Ie. go from 40# limbs to 50#. I bought my little guy one two years ago, for the whole package it was around $300.
