Anybody Chrono'd a 2" blazer against a 4" or 5" feather?

Greg/MO, Len, anybody??? I know that Greg had said that a feather is faster than a 4" plastic vein and I believe that Len has tested this. Has a 4-5" feather ever been tested against a 2" blazer? My bet is with the blazer. I have no chrono. Enlighten me.:D

My dad chronoed the 2" Blazers vs our old 4" vanes and the results were nearly the same. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was literally a couple fps difference. The only reason we ended up switching was because of the reduced in-flight noise that the Blazers have. They were much quieter than the 4" vanes.

huntingson, when you say 4" vanes, is this plastic or feathers?

3 4" feathers weigh in at about 6-8 grains, 3 2" Blazers weigh in at around 13-15 grains. The difference is minute but straight out of the bow, theoretically you'll be a fps or two up with feathers over Blazers, down range, I simply don't know, haven't played with my chrono out to distances with feathers. I have no desire to shoot them anymore so I don't tinker with them either. If I didn't make up arrows for friends, I wouldn't have gotten a chance to weigh them out either.

Sorry, they were plastic vanes.

Maybe it is all in my head, but it SEEMS to me that the blazers have less drop off at 40 yds and beyond than a feathered arrow. To me it seems that the feathered arrow "dies" at 40 yds and beyond quicker than a blazer.

I dont a test a few years ago 5" feathers against 5" vanes.

out of the bow the feathers where faster and where faster up to about the 38 yard mark.

After that the vanes where faster than the feathers I could not complete the test after 50 yards due to a brain fart and I got a perfect heart double lung on my crono:)

I do have the exact figures written down some where I will see if I can find them and post them.

Greg, I posted a response to that statement in that thread you and I were in but no one answered me. I thought by the reply about Norm and Len that they had only tested 4" plastic vanes and not actual 2" blazers. Norb and Len, how about it? I just want to know. Actual speeds at different distances with both of them would be appreciated too.

I did this last summer - each arrow had 3 fletched of feathers and blazers. The feathers were 4 inches. My average given to me with my chrono, with my set up, with 5 shots each, showed the feathers 3 fps faster at 2 yards and about 1 fps slower at 40 yards. It took a little longer to get the 5 shots at 40 and that's all the further I wanted to push it since I didn't want to buy another chrony. I'm sure others might get slightly different numbers with wind, temps, humidity, altitude, etc. The numbers are about what I expected though. I still like both for different things, but mostly shoot feathers.
