My dog finds a shed---pics

Funny thing, there was a post about a week ago with some shed pics, and a member mentioned he needed a shed hunting dog. I came home this morning after pulling a graveyard shift and my son was waiting at the door to tell me our Dog Boomer was chewing on a shed in the yard yesterday evening. looks like me and my son have another shed hunting buddy now. back around 2001 or so, my sonwas lookingfor sheds in the woods beside the house with the dog tagging along, the boy found the dog standing over a shed sniffing it and i had the same happen a couple years ago. could it be? here is a pic of the shed he brung home yesterday (its a shed from last season) and here is my pal Boomer.

I gotta get me a dog lol. Cool beans. My boss's dog actually dragged one home bout 10 years ago.I wouldn't have brought it up but the shed is bout 80-90 inches. [:-] They sure do like chewin on antlers though, my last dog felt the need to eat my velveted elk antlers one day while i was at work. Came home and could not find the rack, then dad told me the news. lol

Cool....I wonder what the proper technique to train a shed hunting dog is.

My beaglebrought one home last summer. The kicker...his shed was a match to one I found the year before. No idea how it lasted over a year, but it did.

Sheds a friend is holding was found by a dog a week ago. My friend is trying to talk the dog's owner out of them. The dog brought each side on two consecutive days.

I started taking my lab as a pup.He was bringing sticks to me,so I was jokeing around and showed him the shed I had found. He came back a few minutes later with a spike shed.He has brought me severial sheds over the years, since.Sometimes we go out to check the dogs and he will have a shed with him that he drug in from the woods around the house.

My stupid dogs can't find anything except gross dead stuff to roll in or skunks to try and play with. Retards, but we love 'em.

My golden found a shed a few years ago, but unfortunately, he's far too fat to walk anywhere now.

The one he did find was really impressive - it had broken the antler off, leaving about 1-2" of base, which is what he found - the shed base. He just kinda walked up and spit this wad of bone on the ground, and I was a little bit surprised that the big fella was able to find it. He's one of those dogs that's super smart, but really acts kinda stupid. Sandbagger.

If you get a dog that's smart enough to train with rewards, and use an old antler to train him - you could have a shedhunting wingman (dog)up and running in a few days.

Like Hia said - you gotta watch, b/c they're prone to chewing

Cool beans.

My mother just bought a new lab puppy, We have her in training all ready to shed hunt. The lab is retrieving them great and I will take here out in about a month for her first shed huntwhen shes big enough to go with me. Mom takes 2 sheds I gave her with the pup everywhere, they are her favorite toy to fetch.

I haven't found any fresh ones this year, 5 old. The snow in the areas I shed hunt is deeper than normal. I will take the puppy out in about a month, I think she will be big enough to get around well by then...

I will pack a shed with me in those first trips to make sure she finds a bone and retrieves it. I look forward to her training. She's already glued to the sheds we are letting her work with at home. She's 7 or 8 weeks old now.
