Anyone not "allowed" to hang a mount in the house?

I'm just curious as to how manyhunters we haveout there do not get to display their mounts proudly in their homes. I know of some spouses that will not allow their hunter spouse to display a mount in plain view of guests andsuch.

Or it may be possible that the hunter chooses not to. What do you guys think about this?

Personally, I had my buck mounted to show it off and to have a concrete memory of the hunt. Therefore I display it in my living room.I am proud of it and it always sparks a conversation aboutthe huntwhen I have friends over.

After I shot my 6x6 Elk my wife wouldn't let me hang it in our living room the only room with a cathderal ceiling so I talked her into buying a new house. Now all is good. This guy I hunt with his wifedoesn't even let him bring home any deer he shoots so when he nailed a good one I had to get it mounted for him and he had to pay me back $20.00 a week until it was paid off so his wife wouldn't know. The deer head hangs in my cabin.

LMAO, up until this past November I wasn't *sorry guys* but wife said if I shoot a big one im in which I got lucky and did. So I took my first ever bow buck mount and put it in my sons room just to see how he would adjust to it.:DSee I told him the big one could go in there.

RE: Anyone not "allowed" to hang a mount in the house?

My brother has a couple of nice skull mounts that his wife won't let in the house, so they are in the garage. My grandpa has a whitetail mount that is in the garage up at their cabin. It's a shame, because its a giant buck that he shot in the early 80's and hardly anyone gets to see it.

I have my finished basement that is my space. I put what i want inthere(deer, fish, hides, old bows, and archery photos). The rest of the house she can do what she wants with. Just dont mess with my basement or garage.

The shoulder mount is fine but the new euro mountisn't liked as much.
It is on the wall where it is not "looking" at her when she is watching t.v.
But it is still in the living room.

Hey, in our house I make all the big decisions and the wife makes all thelittle ones.....It just so happens there hasn't been any big decisions yet[&:](jk)

I haven't shot what I think to be a mounter yet. But when I do you can bet your sweet a$$ its going in the garage...:D

Right now I have a 1000 piece deer puzzel I put together and framed over the fire place. I don't think it would be a problem, but most of all pics and antlers are in the garage now. But thats where I spend most of my time anyway!

RE: Anyone not "allowed" to hang a mount in the house?

At first it was "over my dead body". Well I did't want to spend the rest of my life in prison and we decided to "let" me hang it in the basement TV room. Well my wife took one look at it there and decided it looked terrible there. "She" decided it would look better over the fireplace in the living room!

It's not that I couldn't put them anywhere in the house, but I have my own room that all my racks, only got 1 mounted Whitetail, and fish mounts go. It is also where I have my gun safe, prints, hunting related books, videos, ect. It is also where I keep my computer.

RE: Anyone not "allowed" to hang a mount in the house?

I got my only deer mount a few years back. I wouldn't have got it done but it was for free.I was told by my mother it was not going in upstairs of the house. Ma and Pa went away for a week to visit family and i waited till they made it out of the driveway then started huntin for the stud in the wall in the living room. Punched in a screw and hung that baby up. Best part was i was back in college b4 they came home. Been 3 years and its still there and I think she is takin a liking to it. Dad isn't a hunter at all but really likes it. I told him if i get this particular buck next year he is goin on the same wall but a bit over. Dad thinks it would be a good idea to get a doe's a$$ mounted stickin out of the opposite wall so both bucks could stare at it. I think we will have to work on ol ma a bit for that to happen.

i think he looks happy despite what mother says.

Well I was told not in my house but what can she do? I haven't shot anything big enough for a head mount. I have a spot for it. My piebald sits in my foyer so I'll ask you who won?

davidmil,
I have a friend that has shot 21 to 24 P&Ys, I learned a lot from this guy. He never enters them in the book and only has 5 shoulder mounts. Me and another buddy kept urging this guy to get 3 of them mounted, so he did. Man, are they gnarly! The rest of his racks are just cuttoff skull plates, hanging from nails on the walls of his garage! Most of the time when people go to his house for the first time, they almost crap their drawers when they see over 20 "deer of a lifetime" hanging out in the garage with the mice!

On the other hand, I mount almost every mature buck that I kill. I keep them in my rec room in the basement. My choice. If the taxi ever finishes the mounts that I gave him, it will total 15 shoulder mounts of mine, 2 for my son and 1 for the GF. I also have 24 plaque mounted racks. Actually, I've got the racks from every buck I've killed. And a whole mount turkey.

To each his own. Most people think that what I do is extreme, but they're not me.;) Besides, I have just 1 son and he better have a pretty understanding GF or wife because I'm going to keep mounting the big ones I get! Somebody is going to inherit those bad boys and I'll be sitting where ever I go, laughing like crazy![:-]

My house is 100yrs old and it just wouldn't look good in any of the rooms. So I finished my basement just to have a place to hang my deer.

I'm lucky. My wife "gave"me the basement. I did the "just one more" line for a couple of mounts and then I shot a 236 inch nontypical that people came from everywhere to see. Katy barred the door. The basement is mine! It is a shrine to bowhunting, ALMOST embarrassing.

A happy marriage is based on compromise. When we were on the honey moon she said no guns in her house and no dead animals, since my bedroom at my parents house had one wall covered with squirrel skins and deer hides and such. I now have a sentry gun safe next to my night stand and she has been requesting I shoot a doe and have it mounted to face my eight point on the wall! Give and take, I have two guinea pigs and a cat in my house that I some how seem to enjoy now.[&:]

We keep our headmounts, horn mountsanda few sheds in the hunting room/office. Wife can live with that. Wife said she would leave me if I ever brought a skull in the house. Not much of a fan for skull mounts so it hardly matters but like to razz her once and a while about doing it. :D

I didn't vote because my answer is not up there. My wife would never say a word about anything hunting related because she knows it is something I love and if I love it that is all that matters to her. I have 3 skulls, a couple racks I shuffle around and 1 shoulder mount in my living room.......the rest is scattered in other rooms randomly.........my wife has plenty of stuff of hers all over the place as well. That's what makes it OUR house. I have always thought that if you have to change who you are for someone to love you........they don't really love you.

My wife showed me a stuffed animal dog the other day she spent $125 on............I wouldn't spend that on a stuffed animal in a million years but who cares??........it wasn't for me and she was smiling from ear to ear.

Mine must love me more then. [8D] From someone who didn't like hunting... geez she has run many trap lines with me, helped cut upand wrap many deer, runs to town to pick up hunting supplies, runs Tyler to and from hunting spots when I work, has offered to help drag deer if I or Tylerget one in a tough spot and listens to us talk hunting all the time. Many more things but you get the idea. I am glad she was willing to change and I love her more for it.

I would have a problem with the wife spending$125 on astuffed animal but since shoulder mounts are going for$400 and I am getting another one done... Iwould just ask her where she wants it put, instead of telling her what I think about it. It's her house andchange is good for the soul!! Well I let her think I've changed. ;)

Say what you will, I voted "not allowed in the house". I have told this story many times. I ran across a beginning taxidermist who mounted two deer for me quite affordably. The old axiom that "you get what you pay for" rings true. Within a year, hair started slipping and moths started flying out of the ears!

So mounts were banned from the house and I cut the racks out of these forms.

It works out okay in the long run. The money I save on taxidermy is now my new equipment fund.:D

Where is the bucket, I'm starting to gag. This thread is turning into "Oh I love my wife, I respect my wife and non-sense". Grow a pair and stand your ground. Hanging a nice looking deer head and/or a mount has nothing to do with love and respect, it has to do with your pasion of hunting. Promote what you do and proudly display your trophies.

I'm not the boss, but my wife doesn't mind my mounts in the living rooms. She does say that I have too many deer mounts, though.

I have a bunch of squirrels and small racked bucks mounted. Many belong to our son and daughter. Also have a moose and lifesize black bear in the main room.

RE: Anyone not "allowed" to hang a mount in the house?

My wife does not mind them, but I prefer them in certain rooms as opposed to others. We have them in my den/office.

My mother on the other hand is different, I have all my Father's mounts with mine. She does not like them, and I think he just got tired of arguing with her. I am glad to help him on that one.
