I'm no speed freak.......but this is cool....

I've never given the speed of my bow much thought (I knew it was pretty fast)....but we were shooting 3D, Tuesday night, and a guy I shoot with wanted me to chrono it. 301fps with my normal target arrow @ 63-64lbs.

I've also never been one to put much merit in IBO......because I think their criteria is useless to the common hunter, BUT.....when I go back to 71lbs (picking up an estimated 2fps per draw lb.....) I'm going to be over 300fps with my hunting rig.

That's pretty cool....:)

Whats your draw length Jeff? Just curious.

Yeah, that is cool. As you can see by my signature I am not as cool as you. Can you tell me more about what your set up is... bow, draw length, arrow weight, etc? Thanks. Also, what is your drop between 20 and 35 yards? I am wondering how fast a bow would have to shoot to get a top pin at 35 yards that is why I am asking that. My current top pin is 30, so if I could get 35 that would be worth the upgrade to me. And yes, it is because I do not want to have to use range estimation or worry about a range finder for those who want to roast me for saying that. Thanks again.

RE: I'm no speed freak.......but this is cool....

My draw length is 29". I shoot 1 pin to 30 yds....even for 3D....and I don't have to worry about ranging, either, now. I don't think it's bad to say that.

I have an '07 Allegiance.

RE: I'm no speed freak.......but this is cool....

So do you know how far the arrow drops between 20 and 35? Say if it is dead on at 20 how low does it hit at 35? Thanks

RE: I'm no speed freak.......but this is cool....

Well....I can tell you that I had a Spot hogg on my Switchback. When I switched it over to my Allegiance.....I first shot at 10yds at the range. (2nd shot was a robinhood....but I digress)

Quickly got it sighted and moved to 20 yds. Minor adjustment.....and I move to 30 yds. My son was with me....and with the lighting in the range....I told him to watch where the arrow hit. I shot the 30 yd pin that was set where I had it for my SB (I simply moved the entire sight window to set the 20 yd pin). He looked at me funny and asked which pin I shot. I told him the 30. he said..."way high"....shoot your 20. I did.A couple of inches at 30 yds?? VERY minor.

I never set the other pins....and I hunted the next day (after sighting in broadheads and makinga VERY MINOR R/L adjustment).

I hope that's what you were looking for?????

Thanks GMMAT. I appreciate your time.

Very Cool Jeff, the 07's must be humping. My 06 is at 301fps with my ACC's at 70 lbs.

RE: I'm no speed freak.......but this is cool....

I don't think they're ANY different, Rob. I just shoot a lighter arrow for indoors/3D. When I get my hunting arrow on...and get it canked up to 71 lbs....I just hope to have the same speed. I think I will.

Kinda apples and oranges....my setups. Didn't mean to imply differently.

Do you have any idea whatarrow weighs?

huh?

lol.,......my hunting arrow is likely 460g+ (How much do blazers and a 5" reflective wrap weigh?). Target arrow is considerably less....

My ACC's with a 100 grain tip and Blazers come in at 381.

Blazers are 5 grains apiece.

OK....guessing a wrap weighs as much as the blazers, combined......I'd say my hunting arrow isover 460g.

300 arrow
15 wrap
125 broadhead
15 vanes
Lumenok....

Arrow I chrono'd was considerably less

Impressive. My Drenalin is pushing a 430 grain arrow 275 fps at 28.5 inch draw and 70#

The slayer I have been playing with is pretty quick too. I am using it as a temporary 3D bow until my other S4 gets here so I can shoot Harrisburg next weekend.

When I first got it, at 66lbs and a measured 29.5" amo draw length I put a 355 grain pro 22 through the chrono at 312. The cams weren't quite timed either at that time. I now have her at68lbs, timed perfectly, and the draw is let out a bit (around 30.25" amo) and I will get to chrono it again tomorrow.I am sure she is gonna be cooking @ 320+. This is the fastest bow I have shot to date right now and it reallyshoots pretty darn good, I am impressed so far.

Point of interest???? Don't they have a maximum speed you can be slinging arrows at the Harrisburg show or is it "Do What Ever you want"? I thought I saw on here somewhere once before that you're limited in most all 3D shoots to a maximum?

Harrisburg falls under IBO regs that don't have speed limitations, you just need to keep it above 5gpp which I am 15 grains over. ASA events are a different story though and havea 280fps speed max +/- 3% for differences in chronos so you actually have a limit of 288.

The only reason I am using this setup is because my 3D bow is still on order and waiting to be built at the factory, so this Slayer is a borrowed bow so I can still shoot in Harrisburg. The Slayers are quick, but at my draw length I really don't need the speed of a slayer.......it's just what I have now and I am simply using the arrows I have already made up for 3D. It does shoot OK though, I shot a 299 40+X 5 spot target last night with it at way over 300fps, a pins sight, and my 3D arrows.

When my bow on order gets here it is about 10-15fpsslower at the same specs and has almost an extra inch of brace height so its a bit more forgiving.

It's going through Martins custom shop being built to my specs. It's a scepter 4 riser with the shorter straight mag limbs, and a C base nitrous cam with the shoot through system. It *should* end up around 37.5" ata, 7.5" brace, and should do around 315-320 at my draw length if I shoot it at 5 grains per pound. I will probably shoot it around 300fps for IBO and local events, and slow it down to low 280's for the few ASA events I will shoot.

That's cool, man! Can't wait to hear how it shoots once you crank it up.

Sounds like a shooter to me. How long does it take one of these manufacturers to build a custom bow for you. I see many offer it. It's not something my type of archeryneeds, but I know you serious target shooters work at perfection to the umpteenth degree. Totally different ball game. When I shot NFAA tournaments in the Southeast many moons ago I did it to prepare for hunting and used my hunting rig. But I always was impressed with the unlimited dudes and their equipment.

Martin and Hoyt are actually the only big manufacturers I know that will really do custom bows these days. Martin is usually pretty fast on delivery of custom bows but right now they are a little behind on the color riser I ordered. I did get my other target color bow within 2 weeks of ordering that is in the same color but they are trying to get everyone their first bow in that color before guys like me get their second which is understandable.

My next will be in the same color as the other you saw pics of on my other one, in chameleon. If I would have settled for their orange color I could have had it in 2 weeks or so out of the custom shop. It should look like this pic except it will be a different color with different accessories and mine won't have a cable guard. I can't wait to get this bad boy......it should be a shooter.
