Bowhunters filming their own hunts

If you fly solo, hunting.....and film your own hunts.....I wanna now how you do it. I just got access to a bow (riser) mounted camera platform that I'll be hooking a little mini-DV camera to....just to try out. I'm going to put a couple of lumenoks on and test it at the 3D range.

Does anyone have success doing it this way? My fear with the tree mounted camera arm is the excessive movement it's gonna take ME to get the camera into position.

Open to suggestions.

I wishI could say I video my hunts.....
I think it would be a good way to get some of myfamily to hunt as well,
They're a bunch of tree huggin' twig munchersLOL
anyways I too would like some info on it...
I've thought of maybe taking turns filming with a buddy of mine...
But it would be very cool If I could do it myself!

Jeff,
I usedthe kind that mounts to the treelast year and it worked great. You just have to set it up where you think they will come by to start with. It's pretty easy to move it to another position if they go down a different trail. You just need to set it up and play with it. You will get used to it pretty quick. The trick is to find out the best place to mount it on the tree for each stand location.

I don't think the kind that mounts to your bowwill work that great for getting shooting footage. I would think when you release there will be to much movement. Let me know how it works. I was going to get this type to start with but talked myself out of it.

As MC stated the bow mounted camera tends to blurr from the reaction of the bow when shot.
If you tend to lower the bow after the shot, you miss filming the animal.

I'm just going to practice with it at the indoor range and see how it goes. I can shoot 3D ...Lumenok and all.....and see what happens.

I'd really like to find some footage someone has shot with this type setup.

Good Luck

I have seen some footage from people who have taped their own hunt. When the deerwas working it's way into range, most of the time I couldn't even see it...because when a shooter buck is coming it, you are too busy trying to get into position, planning your moves, drawing you bow back, etc. The last thing they became worried about having it film. After the shot, I seen some good footage of the ground. Again, after the shot was released, they were too busy watching the buck and where he ran too and if they could hear him fall...not about having it on film.

To do so, you will have to be mentally prepared to always hold the bow in position to film the deer. Not saying if can't be done, but it kind of gets forgot about it in the moment.

I think it really depends on what"Quality" of footage you want. Do you want Hunting Video Quality or just something to play back to show to a few friends, without quality being a big factor.

I think it would be cool to have the camera there......and it would be good to get deer on film that I WASN'T interested in taking......since I see a LOT more of those than the "shooters" (I HATE that word...lol).

If I get the ones I want on film (the ones I shoot)....so be it.

I hunt with a camera man, but i also sometimes use a small external camera lens that mount to your stabilizer and plugs into your small DV cam that you can keep in your pouch. Its called a Hoytcam and is used for mounting to helmets, guns, bows, etc. Its kinda pricy but it is well worth it if your going to used it for bowhunting as well as waterfowl hunting (on your shotgun)

Check out the website and contact Chris for more info, he will take care of you. www.hoyttech.com

Oh, i forgot to add...its the HC-TACT model. Also you need the LANC remote to mount on your bow to start and stop recording/turn the camera on/off

Oh yeah, GMMAT i have also used the stabilizer that you can attach a small camera to and it works alright. It works great for videoing deer that your not planning on shooting and it works pretty good if you can hold your bow on the deer after the shot. I got some video of me shooting a doe with that set up a couple years back. PM me and ill email it to your or something if you want.
