Hey Don:

Does it come with covers (inside) for the windows?

If not.....How hard do you think you're going to have to work to keep from being silhouetted in there?

Fair questions?

GMMAT 04-04-2007 11:42 AM

RE: ASAT BLIND

I "think" I see, now. Do the windows zip closed......."blacking out" the entire inside...if you so choose?

If so.....it looks great!

hardcorehunter 04-04-2007 11:48 AM

RE: ASAT BLIND

Yea, each window zips closed with a high quality nylon zipper if you choose to close any of them. This would be a great feature if you are wanting to seal upa few windows in a cold wind. There are 8 windows to shoot out of and each has a zipper for being shut or you can just clip each window shut/open with a plastic hook located at the top of each window that hooks into a strap sewn into the blind. This pic shows the window closed with the plastic hook for silent opening and closing with no zipper to mess with.

These are pretty sweet and at$250 suggested retail, I can have two of these for darn near the price of one $400 suggested retail DB Matrix. Same heavyweight poly cotton no shine fabric.I love my DB's don't get me wrong and I will still continue to brag about their quality. Both are great blinds but don't let the reasonable price of the ASAT blind fool you, it is a quality blind. The carrying case is better on the ASAT blind than the DBand the backpack straps are comfortable and padded. Even comes with stakes for staking in high wind. The blind hubs make the blind fabrictight and I can tell it will not flap in the wind. I will give a review in a week after my 13 year old boy hopefully arrows and nice tom out of it during youth season. This is the 1st blind that I have seen that will give DB competition. Great product ASAT and Eastman.

By the sounds of it on other forums, I am one of the few guys that own all three of these blinds. Enjoy the pics.
Here are some comparison photos: This is the Double Bull BS5 next to the ASAT

the kidd,
It came out around the middle of January and that is when it was showcased by an ASAT dealer on Archery Talk. I posted this thread in January and I just brought this thread backup to the front pagetoday now that I have the blind.

hardcore, I don't see (might have missed it) where you mention how long it's taking to get it set up. How about some comments on set up/pack up? Also, I was just looking at the ASAT sight and see the specs say weight is 22lbs.,is that correct? Thanks

hardcorehunter 04-05-2007 06:05 AM

RE: ASAT BLIND

Sets up in 30 seconds as advertised. Just like a DB sets up. Putting it away in the backpack is easier than the DB pack is because it has a heavy duty zipper than runs the entire length of the backpack, unlike the DB one that requires you to slide it into a sock.

Sweet.....

I liked the photo of all 3 of them together.... gives a good visualization on the blind rather than just seeing photos of it by it's self.

I hope you and your boy make some great memories with it in the field for years to come.

Buckeyebuckhunter,
I appreciate your promptness with my order. You received my payment and sent me a PM notifying me that my payment had arrived and you told me 2-4 business days and it would be at my door. Two business days later it was at my door!!!! You are a great man to do business with and I recommend Scott to anyone and this ASAT blind. HAPPY CUSTOMER here.

RE: ASAT BLIND

My ASAT dealer(Buckeyebuckhuntr) just sent me a PM and he wanted my honest opinion on this blind with no sugar coating and what complaints that I have on the blind if any. This is my reply:

Honestly none. I have only played with it; set it up three times, sat in it, tore it down. If I was to place both of these blinds next to each other(the DB and the ASAT) with people that had never heard of either, I would bet that the majority of people would think the ASAT cost more. Both are made out of high quality, thick poly cotton. They both look like they were made by the same manufacturer in China. The ASAT has better brush ties, better tie outs on the hubs, the roof has a different rope on it than the other hubs so you know which hub is the roof, better windows to shoot thru instead of clumped up, wadded up netting like a Matrix, the BS5 window has to be resewn in to replace the netting where the ASAT can be exchanged with a new one simply by velcroing a new one in. I have never shot an arrow through a netted window yet on any of my blinds, but I would think it would be safe to say that a taunt window netting would be more accurate to shoot thru than a wadded up clump like the Matrix. The windows can be totally zipped shut to keep out wind if you choose to where the DB can't. The windows can still be used silently with the plastic hooks exactly like the feature on the DB. The ASAT pretty well offers 360 degree shooting with the 8 large windows. The backpack is awesome, the padded shoulder straps make carrying the blind comfortable and the DB carrying sock has always been my only gripe about the DB.The DB sock is hard to load the blind in or carry it, while the ASAT carrier unzips for loading. Great product that Eastman and ASAT turned out. At nearly $200 cheaper for the ASAT with no sales tax and free shipping you offer, it is going to be a huge seller IMO and is the 1st blind to give DB competition or be in the same league of quality like a DB.

hardcorehunter, If you still have the blinds up (I doubt it because I see you put the pics in 2 days ago) would you post the 3 together with the faceing windows unzipped?I'm thinking that they areclosed in the pics and just wonder what the differance would be becausein other pics itlooks like the ASAT mesh has their camo print on it and I'm not familiar with the DBL Bulls. If possible thanks and if not still thanks for the ones you gave us.

hardcorehunter 04-06-2007 03:39 PM

RE: ASAT BLIND

BKE, the wind is howling and it is cold out, so not today. The DB's net is a camo print to match the blinds' predator pattern and the ASAT uses ASAT netting in its' windows. Hope this helps.

RE: ASAT BLIND

I wanted to followup on my review of this ASAT blind. We logged a lot of hours in this and the DB Matrix this spring and I have to say that I like the ASAT as well or better than the DB Matrix. We had a lot of deer and turkeys near the blind, with a tom that snuck in from behind us and was only 5 ft from the ASAT. We did not expect a tom to be coming from this area as we were in an open field and he came out of a tiny little strip of timber. I had a doe come right up at 10 yds and watch my Pretty boy decoy do his walk(I rigged my pretty boy on a homemade track and he walks 4 ft and turns around and comes back at ya) The blind was not brushed in and the windows were not netted. We had lots of hens and deer near us but we couldn't get a kill bowshot on the few toms that we saw this year. Had several birds that presented easy shotgun shots, but no good bow opportunites. Our area has a poor population of toms. Anyway, awesome blind, everybit as good as quality as a DB, same no shine cotton fabric, and like I said earlier, nearly half the price. A real winner IMO. I have another on order.

GMMAT 06-26-2007 12:01 PM

RE: ASAT BLIND

Kind of a "scentlok" type argument though, don't you think, Don? Are you saying you wouldn't have seen as many Toms (albeit using the few you did see as "relative") or you wouldn't have seen as many deer (had you been in the Matrix)?

Testimonial.

I'll take your word for it on the quality. I only have the Matrix.

hardcorehunter 06-26-2007 12:09 PM

RE: ASAT BLIND

We switched back and forth and saw equal amount of game no matter what blind we were in. Plain old poor population of turkeys. Just impressed with the quality and I can't see the nearly $200 price difference between the two. If someone is wanting a high quality blind and thought that they had to spend $400 to get one, I am letting them know that it isn't the case. From what I have seen, I am the only one here and on several other forums that actually owns both theDB and ASAT blinds, and profits from neither company. Take the review for what it is. Just my opinion with nothing to gain.

GMMAT 06-26-2007 12:24 PM

RE: ASAT BLIND

I don't questionyour sincerity OR the ASAT blind......just pointing out the obvious (that a claim can't be made that would say which one allows you to see more game).

I'm sure it's a nice blind.

No, you aren't the only one, and I agree with you 100%. The ASAT blind is just as good in the quality department. The ONLY edge I would give the Matrix is field of view. That curtain window is pretty hard to beat, but is it worth $200? Not hardly. Even the "dead spaces" in the ASAT blind aren't really an issue.....

hardcorehunter 06-26-2007 02:03 PM

RE: ASAT BLIND

My feeling on the dead spaces isthat they are an attributein that you can draw behind these with your bow without being seen.

Jumped into this topic a little bit(lot-a it) late, but after reading everything, i have to say, looks like a nice blind, but i'm not willing to give up the 360 degree viewing, and if need be shooting.

I quoted you here because i don't understand. Are you talking about keeping the blind (double bull) all the way open 360 degrees around, at all time? If so, why? I Keep one side completely closed, and peek out the other, if need be, i close up the one side and open the other to get a shot. Just curious. Thanks for your reviews, and your willngness to answer questions.

Kyle

RE: ASAT BLIND

No, whatever blind one is hunting in, he should keep the back of the blind closed so as not to be silouetted. That being said, the ASAT has small areas between the windowsfacing you that are not wide open. One can easily see to the right or left of these so I don't feel any game could ever sneak up on you due to these dead spots. What is nice about these dead spots is that you can be directly behind these and draw your bow unseen, then slightly lean right, left, or wait for the animal to move into view. Same as a DB BS5 or T2.

I am constantly looking at blinds in stores, touching them, looking for shine in their fabric, quality of the hubs, shooting windows, other various features. This is the only blind that compares to DB IMO. They look like they are both made in the same Chinese factory. Yes, they are both made in CHINA. Once DB went there, any loyalty to only supporting an American company went out the window. It isn't like the cost savings of having a DB built in China was passed onto us.:eek:I love DB and ASAT blinds; if one was made in America I would only buy that one. Off of my soapbox but damn, I get tired of seeing hunting equipment made in China.

ASAT is working on bringing manufacturing to the USA. It was done in China when it was purchased by Rob. It's more difficult then saying let's just get it done here in the USA. I have another company where we produce a protective line of chaps. They're made in the USA and were VERY proud of that fact but what HEADACHES we have in keeping them here. Now I'm off my soap box.

My apologies! We're in the process of adopting a little boy who has been in foster care 1 1/2 out of his 2 years of life. It's becoming VERY frustrating to me fighting thru all the red tape. It seems we're the ONLY ones who care about the boy and his stability. I got one last night after we had dropped him off at his foster parents. I was CRANCKY and shouldn't have taken it out on you. Again please accept my apologies.
