Broadheads
I'm new to archery and was wondering what broadheads i should get if i plan on hunting turkey deer and elk? I've heard that mechanicals are less reliable.

muzzys are a good head forever thing

RE: Broadheads
I just switched to the Crimson Talons... I love them...

RE: Broadheads
A LOT of bowhunters have been really pleased with Slick Tricks. Almost all find that they group right with their field points with no tuning beyond good field point tuning, out to distances as far as you'd care to shoot. The first time I shot one it was in the center of my group (I shot it first) at 50 yards, and I am only afairly good shot. Many have testified to their killing success; many have used the same head and BLADES with only a sharpening for more than 8 deer. If you aren't happy with them they will refund your $ with no questions asked. www.slicktrick.net

RE: Broadheads
Crimson Talons are good broadheads except the curved razors break after you smoke a deer with one. I love Montec's. They are a lil more pricey but you can use them over and over. I have seen someone shoot it through a 50 gal. metal barrel then use it to kill a deer that evening without sharpening. You can also sharpen them if you feel the need to... BADASS Broadheads!

RE: Broadheads
Can't go wrong with Slick Tricks. I converted to them a couple of years ago.

RE: Broadheads
Guess I'm old fashioned. I been using thunderheads for a few years and they have not failed yet. Until they do I will stay with them and they are about available in all the sporting -archery stores.

RE: Broadheads
Taken a deer and 5 elk with wasp 3 blade fixed. I have put it through ribs on elk and has stood up just fine. My buds here use spitfires for elk, i am leery of mechanicals but they seem to perform very well for them. For elk you want a good solid strong point.

RE: Broadheads
I like the Montecs by G5. Fly well and are pretty sturdy. They need to be sharpened but I like the re-usability of them.

RE: Broadheads
I have been using the heavey wieghts from Bear ( 2 blades ). But can't buy them here no more so I have been changing to Magnus 140 grain 2 blade broadheads. I can't wait for next season to try them out. My last deer shot with the bear broadheads hit at an angle but, cut thru seven ribs so I am happy with my choice.

RE: Broadheads
muzzys are a good broadhead. bone crushing.
|
RE: Broadheads
Slick Tricks, Magnus Stingers, Muzzys... in that order too.
|
RE: Broadheads
go with any fixed blade that's razor sharp and you'll kill all three granted you make good shots.
|
RE: Broadheads
I shoot muzzys. I tried many different heads, but always go back to muzzys and will never leave again. I don't elk hunt, but I use them on deer and turkeys as well and know people that swear by them for elk.

Thunderheads!

RE: Broadheads
I also like Thunderheads. I had an arrow with a thunderhead on it blow thru a 350lb. boar.. So i would say thats decent

I'm a 125g Muzzy believer (Thanks, Germ!).

RE: Broadheads
The Crimson Talons are devastating. Huge Holes. Tons of Blood.... you have a very good chance of recovery if you get an unfortunate marginal hit too. They are usually only good for one kill though... gets expensive... But I won't shoot anything else.
I have found the blood trail from the CTs to be better than the Slick Trick Magnums (which I shot for 2 years prior). |
RE: Broadheads
I have been using Hypershock mechanicals for the last two years and have had great luck. 2" cutting diameter with lots of damage. Trailing was easy and they're field point accurate. Pick what is accurate and works for your setup.
