I'm assuming you are speaking of Howard Hill in Robin Hood. If so, I agree!!! :)

Check below for a listing of his achievements:

Yup, how many archers do you know of had this happen to them?

- Drew 35,000 spectators in Grants Park, Chicago in 1941, where the crowd tore the shirt off his back, and took his arrows, bow and quiver as souvenirs.
You may also want to check out the small clips of him shooting that I recently posted here:

Yep uncle Howard taught me quite a bit. I think my dad was twice as good but he just never went for the lights of fame!!

You can tell he hunted in a different era! Shooting eagles with a bow might be frowned upon now. I also doubt taking down a bull seal (though large) would be so difficult.

Surprised you found some stuff to criticize or downplayHoward Hill about after reading all the achievements.

Well maybe not.............[8D]

I'm not downplaying his achievements... That guy could outshoot me in his sleep after a cocaine overdose! Just seems weird shooting a bull seal. If you have ever seen video on one all they do is hang out on the beach!

"M-O-O-N" that spells that William Tell would smoke Robin Hood. Anyone that can shoot an apple off of someones head at 25 paces is pretty good, and apparently has some dumb friends. ;)

Do you think Mr. Hill used Scent Lock or Scent Blocker? Hummm....

I have never heard of the guy till today! Thank you!

Question is would he? The guy was an actor, what do you think? I can say this, he wouldn't be here. He wouldn’t take the grief he would surely have gotten for a lot of the shots he took or the big bows ("No one needs to shot that poundage. You must have some "man" issues") .:D

Different time. Great reads! Independent thinker!

Made some great shots, butkeep this in mind,he slung arrows by the hundreds when he hunted and if I remember right he was happy with hitting something 1 out of four times. A 25% success rate. I can't remember the context in which this was said and know he was much better than that. Still when I read it I laughed out loud and immediately thought of how that would be received on forums today.

Killing a seal might not be hard, but I can imagine finding it would be.....

Robin Hood (Howard Hill) and Fred Bear are the reasons I am an Archer/ Bowhunter today!

Here is what I think (Buffalo Hunt): I don't believe he was acting or being filmed when he rode an Indian Pony bareback, dodgedthe Alpha Heard Buffalo challenging him head on, took a quality wild free roaming Buffalo in Wyoming all the while going full speed (his Pony and the Buffalo)shooting his longbowand takingonly oneshot.;)

I saw a guy from a tribe in Pampua in the rain forest hit a bat in flight the other night. He say's to the guy with him the animals have a chance they can run or die.

Red Lion... Just for the record.... William Tell did his shooting with a crossbow. ;)

Yep I read that! Great story! The 25% statement was in the same book "Hunting the Hard Way". Guy fires me up! Love to live the life the way he did. Some day. He sure did impress those guys who never thought he would have a chance in he!! of dropping that buffalo with a shaft. The pony was a great part of the story, can't take credit away from him.
