Overall I would say no but then again if it was only a very slight quartering angle I probably would take the shot.

I take Killing shots

Personaly I wouldn't but it all has to do with proper shot placement , to each his own.

I voted yes, but there are several variables that would determine whether I'd shoot or not. Obviously theseverity of the angle is the biggest factor, but if it were a slight quartering to angle I'd take the shot.Hard quartering to I'd pass. Also, it depends on the distance as well. If the deer were standing out past 25 yards and slightly quartering to I'd pass and wait to see if he presented me with a better shot angle.Inside 25 yards and slight quartering to, I'm shooting.JMO

With a BOW.. I would NOT....
Bowhunter need to be ethical hunters and be patient. 9 times out of 10 you will be offered the shot your looking for anyway. Or make a sound and deer will turn and give you that slight time window you need to take your Ethical shot...

reguardless how close i would sooner pass on this shot because if i made bad judgement or even worse a bad shot i would be able to live with myself knowing i did this and lost the animal

jmho you owe to yourself and the animal

I never have......but I'm not saying I wouldn't.....if the situation were right. I'm being honest.

Sometimes you just have to go with the info given. I voted no. If it said "slightly quartering to" I may have voted yes. -But it doesn't. -Then again, I'd proably consider a very slightly quartering to shot a broadside any.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

I also like Germ's answer. We've both read a book by Joe Brooks in which Joe emphasizes the vitals area on a MATURE deer being about the size of a basketball. he says you have to be able to put your arrow in/through that area.

Period.

There are SO MANY variables.......but the bottom line is.....can I put my arrow into that area? If yes???? I'm sending my arrow.

I wouldn't take a shot through the brisket.....but if you've done it successfully.....and would do it again........have at it.

Nope, I'd pass, sooner of later the critter will offer a better shot or walk off.....plenty of deer out there...

I'm not that good yet that I would take such a low percentage shot, we have so many deer here on average that it just isn't worth the risk anyway.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

Maybe, but probably not. Lots of factors go in.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

I voted yes but just like everything else ...... it depends.

With my bow and arrow combination I would take a quartering to shot through the shoulder any time it was offered from a deer. If I were using a recurve obviously not. I wouldn't allow my son, daughter, or wife to take that shot because they are shooting lighter set ups.

If I were hunting elk, moose, bison, etc...I wouldn't take that shot.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

most likely not...but were i hunt (not in a tree) it would be easier to track if a bad shot and most likely would not be a lost deer (just in case a bad shot would happen)...if he were a monster i would really consider, but the distand away would be my real factor....a smaller deer probably 100% pass..

My uncle had a nice buck at 15 yds facing right at him. He drew and decided not to shoot.I was skeptical if whether the arrow could make it through the brisket. Ill do a test sometime and see. I voted yes simply because the question didnt say how sharp the angle was.

Definately. I have always thought that if you are confident in your shot and equipment, don't be afraid to take a shot. It's all about shot placement.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

The Buck I took this year was a qautering too shot. It wasn't that steep of an angle but at 20 yards I knew I could put it through. It was a double lung with good blood easy track.I would do it again. But a differant angle maybe not.

WVCritter 01-23-2007 05:27 PM

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

I voted yes only because I have done it successfully. I was high in a tree and the buck was only slightly quartered. It only ran 50 yards and went down.

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

I agree with the fact that there are multiple factors to consider but for my comfort level I would not take a shot at a deer that is giving me a hard quartering to shot. I have taught myself to be patient and most of the time it has paid off.

I'd have to see the shot first. Then I'd let you know.:) I've shot 84 deer with a bow. I've never had to take a shot that I considered quartering to. Doesn't mean I wouldn't. I usually wait until I see what I want. Patience Grasshopper. I voted YES

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

Yes, but it would depend on the angle

Only if I wanted to wound a deer, walk miles tracking it, and dissappointed in the end.

If it is mostly broadside, slight quartering too, then maybe u would reconsider.

Quartering towards...no. Quartering away...probably. Question of range, angle, cover, etc..

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

If slightly quatering,Yes, if hard angle, NO.
If I was in a treestand and close enough, a quartering to angle would allow you to shoot slightly above and back from the shoulder and get one lung and the diaphram. Possibly the heart.

And that's something you would want???[:-]

RE: with a bow would you take a qaurtering too shot?

would depend on the angle and situation, it can be very difficult to get a shot off with the deer facing, then the placement would have to hit the money. I have seen several bucks killed with a quartering shot, it's not ideal but it certainly can be lethal
