2 months ago I bought the SAME rangefinder - Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport for $179 - this is a GREAT buy!!!! I use mine for bowhunting/3d only & it has been perfectly fine so far.

I just checked ya'll are right it is $179 at Cabelas! I'd like one but I don't know if I want to spend a $100 for one. Let me ask this question to you guys who own one; how close will it accuratly give you the yardage? For instance I know some rangefinders won't give a yardage under 20-30 yards. That would make it a little ineffective for bow hunting. Just curious. Thanks

Holy Crap! I guess I just found my Christmas present for this year!

TxCowboy, to answer your question, I went to the bathroom and got my November issue of Bowhunting World in which I had been thoroughly perusing the article on rangefinders in it.

Here's what it said about the Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport, retailing at $270.

"Just slightly larger and less versatile than the top-of-the-line Scout, the economical Sport was a strong performer in our accuracy test, with just one-yard discrepancies at the 30- and 40-yard marks.

"Company literature says the Sport has a 10-yard minimum range, but we got ours to range as close as 5 yards.

"We liked the large, easy-to-see LCD readout, and nice sighting picture (field of view is 320 feet at 1,000 yards). Magnification is 4x, again, a slight step down from the Scout but a good, welcome -- and easily noticeable -- step up from the units that offered none.

"The internal yards-to-meters switch is located in the battery compartment, and once flipped, will display one way or the other -- eliminaing confustion forced by some other units that require you to change in and out of these modes using the power button."

TX, these work down to 6 or 7 yards according to the literature and my experience with it. I've had one for a couple of years and it works great for me. There are a couple of features the high-dollar ones have that might be nice, but for bowhunting, you can't go wrong with this little jewel. Grab one.

I purchased the Yardage Pro 500 from Cabelas at full price and it was not a mistake. Mine occasionally will give a reading less than 20 yards but not normally. Being an old . . . OLD instinctive archer [now converted to sights and release] I have a good eye for targets less than 20 yards and rarely miss. I have problems judging targets over 20 yards and that's where I need my help.

I like the YP 500 because it has several filters: STANDARD [out to 500 yards-minimum reading 20 yards]; SCAN continuously scans multiple or moving targets;REFLECTIVE glass, stop signs out to 999 yards; RAIN precipitation 65-95 yards/meters; ZIP THRU fliters energy pulses from brush, etc less than 115-165 yards. These were the combination of features that sold me on this unit. In the Pacific Northwest all these features are very useful.

Though in some cases the units don't read very closely it more than fullfills my needs. When I am five yards from an animal . . . bet that I know it.

I just called them on the phone to order it and they said they were out of stock but they guaranteed me they'd put one on order for me at that price and they'd call me when they were in-stock. If I still wanted it then, I could authorize them to charge my credit card and ship it out. I sure hope they get some more in stock!

This range finder is perfect for bowhunting small and simple it says the minimum yardage is 10 yards but I got readings at 6 yards
