RE: the deer are gone!! poof!! just like that!!!

Even my best areas with high deer densities go dead following Opening Day of firearms season. I went out Opening day and again this morning and had deer all around me before it was light enough to see. The only deer I saw during legal light was a small doe that walked up to the base of my tree. I didn't need the meat and wouldn't have shot her if I did--she needs to live a while. I'll give it another go this afternoon because my youngest son wants me to take him out. I don't enjoy gun hunting the way I do bowhunting.

Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.

Gun season has an affect on them as well as the moon. The clocks being turned back are not relevant at all. What used to move at 5PM now moves at 4 PM. Got a good chuckle though. Thanks

"Remember, just about a week or two before the season we changed our clocks back, so the movement is now later at night( usually at dark or just before), but it never fails, just one day with a gun and nothing to shoot at."

Still got a chuckle. The point ,that the changing of the clocks DO NOT change the habits of deer in relationship to when it gets dark. I think I know what you meant, it just didn't come out that way.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
O.K., let's see, if the deer was moving at 4:30 before it is now 3:30, also now at 4:30 it's dark, when before turning them back it was light or just dusk out,,,, hhhhmmmmm sound right???? must be,,, every year it is the same way,,,, it always gets darker earlier at winter/fall times, the season gets shorter days just after turning the clocks back....

If everyday a deer moves at 4:30, lets say 1/2 hour before sunset. Turn the clocks back and 4:30 is now 3:30. Are you saying this same deer is now getting up and moving at 4:30 after it is dark?????

DEER DO NOT HAVE CLOCKS!!!!

That same deer is now moving at 3:30, still 1/2 hour before sunset.

And what about the mourning?? It gets light an hour earlier (by clock time) By your logic all the wrist watch wearing big bucks would be easy to kill as they will be returning to there beds 1 hour after sunrise. When before daylight savings they where in there beds before sunrise.

I agree that the days slowly get shorter during the fall and this can effect the amount of time they move during light. BUT, the turning back of the clocks has absolutly NO effect on the time (in reference to the setting or rising of the sun).

That's what I meant guys in relation to the clocks. It just didn't come out right. Once I read it, I had to laugh myself.

KEEP IT LEGAL. KEEP IT SAFE. OR WE MAY NOT GET TO KEEP IT AT ALL.

Same thing here. Tons of sign two weeks ago, today nothing.

What about the end of the rut? Maybe the deer are recovering in the thickets and not moving at all?

I found two does in the thickets but there wasn't much sign in the snow of them leaving AT ALL in the last 3 days.

Maybe it isn't that they are moving at night, maybe it is that they aren't moving period?

Any thoughts?
