question on bow sight length
 

I've been wondering for a while about this. I see sights come in different lengths, some times adjustable lengths for bows. Some stick way out there like a stablizer and are adjustable. Some just simply bolt on and kind of hug the riser of the bow. My question is this... Is it better, more accurate, to have a sight that sits out a ways from the riser? Or does it make any difference at all.

I always wondered that myself. I like to keep it at a distance where when I look through my peep sight I can see the outer ring (my cobra has a orange ring) of my site. So if I am looking through peep sight the orange circle is just on the inside edge of my peep. But would like to know if a longer one is better also.

I'm not sure, but the old Ky. long rifle's were thought to shoot further. Later thay found it would not shoot as far. The excess barrel slowed the bulletdown but it was more accurate due to a longer sight plan. Longer sight plan may = more accurate with a bow also?

Having a longer sight plane makes a difference. It's sort of like shooting a pistol vs a rifle, both with iron sights. However, there has to be a practical element thrown in there for hunting. I know of guys who have hunted with long sights, long stabilizer and a 2-finger stan release![:'(]For a tournament that is fine but I wouldn't be caught dead in the woods hunting with a setup like that. I like the manuverability of the shorter setup. Stabilizer 12" or less, sights 3-6" from the riser and a solid hunting release.

Take a look at your bow, see what looks and feels the best to you.Make it your best hunting setup.

Good analogy, Greg.

I recently went to a sight with a longer (whateveryoucallit). I love it...and I know I'm more accurate with it. We'll see how well I can hunt with it. I haven't noticed any maneuverability issues with it, though.

Time will tell.
