Major props to GRIV's DVD...
 

I posted a link recently in the tech forum about a new tuning DVD being released by George Ryals, and I'm not even close to being done with it but I've got to take the time to give it some major props.

I thought LeEarl's was good, and -- for the price -- it was definitely worth the money. However, as we don't exactly have a plethora of highly skilled technicians around here to learn from when it comes to the little things, I'm REALLY enjoying GRIV's video.

Just for an example... I've never had the privilege of anyone showing me how to really properly tie in nock sets, or how to serve in peeps correctly. I've perused a ton of websites, and found all sorts of different ways. I started using LeEarl's method after watching his DVD, which is essentially a series of half-hitches. That was OK, but left a bit of excessive "knottage" on one side of the serving...

I've been watching GRIV now for a few times via the rewind button, and I just completed some on my own ... SUCH a cleaner look! He shows how to back-tie and pull the strands back into the first part (I'm not even going to try to explain; just watch the video! :)) and his tied-in nock sets are amazingly simple and produce an awesomely clean knot. He uses a loop of dental floss to bring the tag end of the knot back through under the servings and tightens the nock down on its own self.. No knots, and it looks perfect.

I can't wait to actually get to the tuning part! :D

It's definitely a great video, GRIV is one of the best coaches and mentors one could possible have. Technically he is probably one of the most knowledgable people in this industry. He can shoot too..........[8D].

When looking at the cost of other types of gear the cost for this video is a steal. You would typically pay $500 or more in coaching fees to learn what this video can show you.

Do George and his kid a favor and buy your own copy instead of stealing one from him. His cute kid needs shoes too you know...........

haha, thanks for the guilt trip, I was j/k. I wouldnt steal it. It caught me off guard, was expecting it to be like 20-25...

I'll have need to wait a month or so, just bought a truck so im forcing myself to stick to a tight budget... I'll pick one up soon though, i need a good lesson.

It is funny you bring this up. I had always tied mine in the "GRIV" way but since I started working down at the shop I have been utilizing more of LeEarl's method. I think I picked up the latter from a PSE program.
