Default Arctic Shield Boot Insulators

I almost bought a set of these today, but decided to wait to hear from folks here..

These things are very lightweight, and I wonder how they can really help much in cold weather. Unlike Boot Blankets you can fold these up easily and put them in your pack. They are easy to put on and take off.. .question is, do they REALLY work? I have 800 gr Thinsulate boots but my feet get cold after and hour or so if the weather is under 30. I bought a big set of Rock Pac Boots, but they suck.. very very heavy and difficult to hike in.. bah.

So, I'm thinking this might be a great solution. I have everything else clovered.. great set of bibs and jacket - hand warmer thing with hot packs if necessary.. good head cover... but my feet get cold fast.

Other guys I hunt with work outdoors and are much tougher when it comes to staying still in the cold. I just can't do it. Will these do it? $50 is an expensive experiment.. want to be sure.

Thanks!

imho, for 50 bucks plus the price of your current boots you could get a boot and sock system where your feet will be WARM!

There are many tributes to cold feet, start with changing your socks once on stand, wearing something other then cotton or any cotton mixture socks! I prefer polypro or thor lo socks and havent had cold feet down to some serious cold temps. I do however change socks as fast as possible when hitting a calling point, or midway through the day when my feet start getting cold. (dont do much stand hunting up here come dec jan) Poly pro liners are great but make my feet sweat bad!

Does your boot fit properly with those big socks on? Many folks boots are just a hair to tight.

Try looking into a pair of sorels or there equivalent rated to -100 or the armys Bunny Boots (mikey mouse boots). Get the WHITE ones! I wouldnt chance a cheap imitation. Last I have seen you can purchase them for appx 80 bucks. They are a little heavy but your feet will never freeze in them. Even if you dunk your feet in the bunny boots, you'll be ok, dump them out slip your boot back on and go!

There are some other spots to consider, (many over look) Your head is the obvious. Neck, pits, kidney and groin areas are it. Keep these warm and your hole body will stay that much warmer!

Also one of those body suit sleeping bag style warmers where you are inside it on stand. That would be perfect! Change your socks once you are in and I highly doubt you'll get cold feet, or cold anything else for that matter!

bought a pair couple of days ago and just tried them out last night. Temp. started out at about 30 and dropped to probably in the high teens by the time I got off stand. Wore non insulated boots but I also slipped a handwarmer inside the arctic shields once I put them on. Feet never got cold and I had the same problem you did. Am impressed so far will find out just how good they are this this week as planning on hunting all week and it is going to be in the teens all week. Was on stand for 3 hours that night.

Blutch, you sound like me..800gram rocky's with wool socks and liners and I still freeze. Bought a pair of Blizzard Stalkers, cant walk in them and to damn much to pack to the stands. I have been thinking about the Artic Shields to and there is a review posted, I think under Hunting Equipment reviews. As far as the military mickey boots, the sportsmanguide.com has their version with an additional 800grams with the wool. Have been told they r the warmest boot found by several hunters, but being rubber i don'y know if they make u sweat. They also have a 2000gram leather boot. I'm undecided on the two..However my season is done, hours before 7 days off for gun week. broke my wrist last night chasing some scroatbag after a brief car pursuit..get one for me..Ruffhunter

Yes, they work<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>. I also agree w/Lilhunter on changing
to fresh socks once you get on stand, this really
helps. I wear Coolmax liner socks to wick moisture
away, wool socks, and add a toe warmer w/adhesive
on the back to the insole of my boots. I wear
800 gr/Thinsulate boots that are 2 full sizes
above my normal shoe size. This combination,
along with the boot insulators, has worked very
well for me when the temperature starts to drop.
This will be $$ well spent.
