stand placement

Where is the best stand placement for the post-rut hunting season. I have been hunting in a oak tree side hill but haven't seen anything yet, I have a spot on a big deer trail, and a spot where i have seen a big one four time. The bad thing about that spot is that i have to be on the ground. Are any of these spots good or should i relocate and where to.

Find the food sources, and place your stands accordingly. Don't get locked in to a &quot;favorite&quot; stand. I'm guilty of this and it is a BAD thing. <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

If you're looking for a nice post-rut buck you need to set up inside some thick stuff, either close to a food source or find a thicket with a food source (such as green browse)and hunt there. If there isn't any browse or acorns in the thick stuff but there's a food source nearby, set up on the edge of the thicket nearest the food on a trail. Trimming shooting lanes is important but don't go overboard with it. I've got the same problem myself, or I should say I had the same problem, but I'm doing just what I told you to do, I'll post back with the results! Hope this helps!

RE: stand placement

I hunt from the ground all the time. This time of year in the post rut, or secondary rut, look for whatever the does are feeding on. Here in Iowa, they are feeding on cut cornfields right now. The bucks are still following the does looking for the ones that didn't get bred in the primary rut. It's worked for me twice this week. Just didn't get a clean shot. I was less than 15 yards from a doe tonight but was waiting for the 6 point buck that was following her. The buck turned her around and got her headed back towards the timber before I got a shot with my buddy's bow. (mine's crap) Oh well. Shotgun season starts here Thursday so I'll have a chance then. Hope this helps. Good luck.
