Anyone ever try to write a mag. article?

Have any of you tried submitting an article to a mag. ? What does it entail. I've been thinking of writing an article on taking mature bucks while hunting from the ground with a bow. Just curious to see if any of you have ever tried it.

:DHey pjhunts, shouldn't your signature actually read "arrive" early and stay late as opposed to leave early and stay late?

Yes it probably should. I did mean however that one should get up in the morning and leave early and be set up well before daylight and stay later on stand per sit. I understand the confusion though, I'll have to work on that

Well i am only 16 and have wrote about 3 articles, but i have not done nothing with them. I have had people read them and they like them. But i threw them away becuase i did not know what to do with them.

i suggest going to the local book store and getting a copy of writer's market and find the magazine you are trying to get published. the entry will tell you the requirements and how much you will get paid. it also should have a couple articles giving advice about getting published.

the basic steps are to contact the publication, pitch your idea, and upon acceptance submit your article. then, you wait for it to be published.

YMMV but that's the basic premise. writing magazine articles is generally a much more in-depth endeavor than most people realize, and many i've seen published in the last few years are not written very well compared to the level of writing seen in national news magazines.

Most magazines require a cover letter be submitted along with your manuscript. Also, if you plan on submitting an article that you would like accepted for publication, submit pictures you've taken as well. This is definitely increase your chances of being selected for publication.

Make sure the article you submit fits their style of writing and what they're currently publishing.

Have more than one person proof your manuscript before submission. Chances are the editors will select your piece with flawed writing and ask you to rewrite it, but you're better off saving them the hassle and just getting it right the first time.

I've written an article for a fishing website and a state level magazine. All I did was submit it and they told me if they liked it.
