RE: "Antler Mount" instructions

Todd, I can't get the direct link to work, but here's the path to take to get a fully set up antler mounting kit for whitetails through WASCO.

go to http://www.taxidermy.net/suppliers/index.html and click on the WASCO link below all the options for mannikins and so on. When you get to the home page, click on beginners kits, and scroll down till you find the antler mounting kits. The first kit they have available is a whitetail deer antler mounting kit that comes with all of the equipment and instructions you will need for mounting your antlers. The whole kit with plaque and all is around 20 bucks, so it is a pretty good deal in my opinion. I oredered some mannikins through them to mount moose and caribou antlers, but I make my own plaques and have the tools to mount them, so getting the mannikins alone is a better deal for me. You can find those under the Novelty link on the WASCO front page.

Hope this helps!

Todd: I was just in Gander Mountain the other day and saw some mounting kits. They were around $14.00. Most sporting goods stores and even Walmart sell them. They come with instuctions.

ArcticBowman, That kit looks far nicer and more professional than the ones I see in Wally World and hunting stores with the one-size-fits-all plastic cover plate.

If you can make or get someone to make you a plaque, you can do your own as well. First, screw your antlers to a small, oval piece of 1/2" plywood. Then form a rounded cap from kids modelling clay to blend smoothly with the skull plate. Next fit a piece of felt or leather around the formed clay and antlers and staple or tack to the back of the plywood. Finally, screw the antler's plywood base onto the plaque (running the screws in from the back of the plaque). That's the how-to in a nutshell, anyway.

Look in Cabelas. They have some really nice simulated leather coverd mount kits for $15.00.
