Draw length observation/question.
 

I just recently upgraded bows (Ross CR334) from my previous much older Jennings Buckmaster 2000. I shot my jennings at 30" since I've owned it as that was what I was measured at by my local shop here. They measure by placing a guide rule nocked on an old recurve and have you draw back (i've heard mixed reviews of doing it this way, which is what leads me to this post). I bought the Rosss setup for 29" from the previous owner, and planned to set it up for 30" with the appropriate module. However, just for kicks, I drew the bow back and it seems to fit! I know there are discrepencies between actual DL and what's advertised by the manufacturer, but is it possible I was shooting too long all these years? Just to make sure I'm not crazy, I attached a picture of me at full draw with the Ross as is (at 29" DL). I am able to anchor a point on the tip of my nose with the string without having to bend my arm too much or move my face I believe, but tell me what you think by looking at this picture. Is it possible a 29" DL on this bow is a good fit for me?

There are several reasons. First, the 30" may have actually been too long and you didn't realize it. Second, just the geometry of the bow itself could make it change. If a bowis more relfexed in geometry your DL may need to be a bit shorter than one that is DEflexed in geometry.

We need a photo that includes all of your draw arm, including your elbow, but it looks pretty good, as far as DL anyway. ;)

Yeah, I cropped the back of my arm by accident (I'm doing this with a timer by myself so it's a little finicky getting myself into postion). Here's a better picture.

I'm far from an expert but in my opinion your good to go.How does the wall feel.

The wall is very solid, much more than my Jennings. The valley on the otherhand seems rather shallow (what's the correct term to use here, I'm new to this:D). It only takes a slight movement forward on my release hand or relaxing of my back muscles to have make the cam roll over very quickly. Anyone have any idea what I'm trying to say here?[&:] Also, my peep isn't aligning quite right, any ideas on that?

Did you switch to a different release with the new bow?
I changed releases this past year and realized it was an inch longer than my old release which made the bow feel like it had a longer draw length. (Anchor point was further back at full draw)

That make sense?

So I modified the new release (cut it down) and am back to my old anchor point.

That looks just about right. And if you want to believe the "experts":Dhaving your DL set too short is preferable to having it set too long. Which is true by the way. Is your bow arm bent? It is hard to tell from the photos, but if the elbow of that arm is straight you are probably still too long.

Nope...same release. I do see what you're saying, though. Only change from my last setup on the release side is the addition of a loop this time (I just clipped to the string on my Jennings).

I would nock an arrow just in case that release or string loop fails. Never know when a dry fire may occur.

At first I said it looked about right, but you know..... after further review it looks like you're leaning back a little. Your head looks like you're leaning back to get to the end of the draw cycle. It's possible you could shorten it up even a little bit more. And relax that bow hand a little.
