Anyone use a thumb style release for hunting?

If so, what kind? And why do you use it over a traditional style release? I'm thinking about getting one but I really need to be convinced that it'll help me shoot better than I do with my Scott Mongoose. Thanks

RE: Anyone use a thumb style release for hunting?

I hunt with a thumb trigger. I use the TRU Ball ST-3 because with the open hook, I don't have to open or close anything on the hook. I cock the release before I head into the woods and then when its time to shoot just hook up and shoot. I use the modular wrist strap as well so I don't lose it. The wrist strap does nothing but keep me from losing it, there is never tension between the release and the strap.

A thumb trigger will do nothing for you unless you learn to shoot it using proper back tension. If you are squeezing it off using any hand muscles or your thumb it will do the same thing as a wrist strap/trigger finger style release. The only advantage there is that you will have more of your hand on your face for a more solid anchor point which can be difficult at best with a wrist strap/index finger style release for most people. It does tend to be easier to learn to use back tension with this than an index finger though.

I use a Tru Ball Pro Diamond and I like it. Just clip it on the D-loop and let it hang. Ready to go at any time and nothing getting in your way.

Truball Extreme with Talon head use it for both target and hunting.

As Mike said just clip it on the loop with an arrow nocked and she is ready to rock n roll ;)

I use the Carter Hunter and I love it. It provides me with a much more consistent anchor than with a wrist strap trigger release because I can anchor the back of my hand right on my jawbone.
