RE: Would you take this shot???
I would not take the shot purposely either!! I can say though I have killed a doe several years ago with a similar shot placement! Not on purpose though! I spotted 3 doe on the last day of the late season and stalked to 60 yards of them. I kneeled down and waited as one of them walked to 40 yards of me broadside. Her right side was facing me. When I released my arrow she completely turned and my arrow struck her in the left hind quarter! She went about 20 yards and was done!

That guy shouldn't be hunting.

To everybody who considers this hunter the scum of the earth, what do you think of the person who did this?

RE: Would you take this shot???
Wouldn't even entertain the thought of shooting a deer that way![:@]

RE: Would you take this shot???
what an idiot
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Mistakes are one thing but I personally wouldn't take a shot like that.
It has never been said if this guy purposely shot this deer in the hind quarter or if it was a mistake. To each his own. |
RE: Would you take this shot???
Obviously a very bad angle and NOPE, wouldn't take the shot. Most times if you just wait the deer will turn.
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Its impossible to comment without knowing the whole story.
Sometimes stuff goes wrong.I onceshot at an 8pt and hit a small branch I didn't see. The arrow deflected and hit him in the hind quarter. Luckily, I hit the artery and he only went 100 yrds. Now if you saw the pic of the deer, you would probably all jump on me without knowing EXACTLY what happened. |

RE: Would you take this shot???
That pic reminds me of a spiker I saw up in Wisconsin this season while scouting. He was walking around with a big ol' aluminum arrow stuck in his butt. Didn't go in far, maybe an inch or two. He seemed fine, doubt he made it through gun season though, you could spot him a mile away.
Sometimes those kinda shots happen, even to the best of us. But, when you purposely take a shot like that, that is just ignorant..... |
RE: Would you take this shot???
Well it will kill a deer but it certainly is not the highest precentage shot. An ethicel hunter would wait for more a ethicel shot where more of the deers body cavity is showing. This is certainly not the kind of shot any bowhunter should condone but accidents do happen.

RE: Would you take this shot???
Do you guys think Tred Barta shot that deer?
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Only if he launched 5 or more arrows at it could he be the one that shot it.
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Again guys...I'm not the one who took this shot.
This is a copy of a photo posted on the Mathews board. All the guys over there are slapping this guy on the back....telling him what a good shot it was. I took the stance, over there, that it was unethical. I'm the ONLY one. The shot WAS intended JUST as it happened. I even started a new thread over there asking the moderators point-blank if they condoned this type of shot. I think, as evidenced by when I first got started, a lot of guys start out with what gets advertised the most.....a Mathews. I seem to see a lot more beginners posting over on that board, than here. I KNOW there's a lot more knowledge here, than there. I'm afraid the guy getting his new bow and starting into hunting will see that and the responses......and think all he has to do is hit the deer. That's what I'm afraid of. I wanted to know if "I" was off-base thinking this shot selection (or LACK of a shot) was unethical. I think it is. Thanks for your responses. The thread is called "first bow deer" on the Mathews page if you're interested. Jeff |
RE: Would you take this shot???
![]() Think though I am shooting 30" arrows where would the tip be at thirty inches? well all I can say is it looks horrible but If the deer was quartering at a hard 90 to the right...you might think you had a better shat than you did. Obviously shot was a little off! To risky for me [hr] |

If I took that shot.....and posted it, here.....I'd be crucified.
If the guy that won the 3D worlds took it......he would, too. I fell that both he and I would deserve it. I'm entitled. Jeff |

RE: Would you take this shot???
I would NEVER take that shot on purpose! [:@]Unfortunately, there will be a few lost deer before that hunter realizes he just got plain lucky.[&o]
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Don't read anything into my posts. I mean EXACTLY what I write. Jeff I would not tell the guy great shot, but remember we were not in the tree with him. Calling the guy an idiot and he is stupid may drive off some first year hunters off,I know you did not do, but sometime people take it that way. I'm done. Jeff |
RE: Would you take this shot???
I was not talking about you:)
The other post where folks called him an idiot. I'm done too;), well maybe |
RE: Would you take this shot???
nope if ya wated it would probably turn
some time making a nois will work |
RE: Would you take this shot???
After reading the posts, yes I would take that shot. No doubt it was a quartering away shot, highly desirable. Perhaps point of impact was only off a few inches, still got job done. Yes, some meat spoilage, I can live with that on a nice big doe, especially if it's a clean kill and speedy recovery.

RE: Would you take this shot???
If I told you I've taken 17 hard quartering away shots, and have recovered 17 deer with that shot, what would you say then ? Still a bad shot ?
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
Fron the angle the arrow is in it looks like the deer was quartering away hard, I took a great buck this year that came in on the chase and was quartering hard in my shooting lane, as I shot he turned even harder, the arrow struck right in front of the hind quarter and passed through the entire deer hitting liver lungs and heart and exiting the front shoulder, he didn't go 100 yards, so I guess if the penetration angle is right the shot can be very effective, it really depends on the situation and the hunter's abilities to hit the mark
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
I agree with Grem. You shouldnt be calling anyone an idiot or stupid. Espeacialy a FIRST YEAR HUNTER
I know that it is a bad hit but maybe that isnt where he was aiming and maybe he was very excited (cant imagin anyone being excited when there about ready to shoot a deer) but maybe this guy is differnt and he was excited and the shot went wrong. So if you guys still want NEW hunters getting on this site and young hunters to sign up i would lay off the name calling. I know that i was unsure to post my buck on here because i know how some of you are with killing smaller bucks. But as i put in my post i said i dont care what any of you say about my deer. It was my first bow buck and im very proud of it. |
RE: Would you take this shot???
My buddy had a doe jump his string when he shot and he ended up hitting her in about that spot but the arrow went in far enough that it got a lung and she only went about 50 yards.
No, I wouldn't take that shot. |
RE: Would you take this shot???
no i would not....way to chancey even for me...and if you do connect there went the upper half of the hind 1/4...not worth injuring a deer....
|
RE: Would you take this shot???
I agree with you GMMAT i would not take that shot if it were presented. I have my share of not hitting where i aimed for whatever reason but i would not try and put it in at that hard of an angle, way to risky. broad side and slightly quartering away you at least have a little room for error.

Never!

RE: Would you take this shot???
I would only take that shot if I had a 3 inch mechanical broadhead and a 300 grain carbon arrow at 310 fps. [8D]
Seriously though - why not just wait for a broadside or slightly quartering shot? I don't by it when people say "That's the only shot I had". BS. That's the only shot you had because you weren't willing to wait 20 more seconds for the deer to turn broadside. They usually will turn if you wait long enough. If they don't, don't shoot. Why is it so complicated? The sad part is this guy thinks that's a good shot to take at a deer now. I don't see anything wrong with educating him as long as it's done respectfully in a positive tone. |
