2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

I know a few of you have shot this in the past..........

Are HC rules any different than outdoor IBO events? Still 35 yards? What are the shots like? Is it a lot of up and downhill, are they mechanical targets or stationary? Is there a time limit per target or do you have time to pick a good number? Anyone have pics of the event in the past, and has the event been held at the same place (IX Center) for a while now?

I have an opportunity to attend this shoot for next to nothing in cost by carpooling w/ some of the guys out of central NY. I am trying to get an idea on whether this is one I should plan to attend and what it is like..........anything like the Harrisburg indoor sportsmans show?

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

Matt,
I won't bother to travel that far for an indoor but in HC from what I hear expect all flat, close yardage (35 is max but I heard they are all close)............you'll need probably around 30x's to even have a sniff.
(I think 433 w/ 33x's won last year? with quite a few X counts in the 30's for 40 targets)
Its a turkey shoot. :D

I heard its relatively dark (Make sure you can see your pins), has been cold inside, yardage is easy.

Not sure about the total level of competition though in HC? There are some good shooters obviously (and guys who shoot HC year after year),butthere are also some local guyswho I shoot about 15-20pts up on for a 30 targetcourse every week thathave been in the top 25with 20+ x's that said its an "easy" shoot.;)

From what I gather from guys who have shot both, Harrisburg's indoor isMUCH more difficult. (To give you an idea,in 2005 when I shot HCandwon the event I shot a 326 for30 targets but that was counting centers as 12's.....next closest score was 313,then 303 from some decent shooters) Shooting side to side across the Harrisburg arena and on those "uphill" shots is much different than the flat layout at Indoor Worlds. (If there areany terrain changes at Indoor Worlds I haven't heard about them?)

You should do well but don't shoot any 8's. Just clean it with 30+ X's.............no pressure.[8D]

(Don't stress over this one. You can start stressing at the Triple Crowns.;))

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

Thanks Matt, that's what I was looking for. Harrisburg is tough, last year I shot a 296 on it with a big fat zipper (0) mixed in there [:'(]. Cleaned the first 10 targets on 10's and X's and dropped one on a almost level 30 yard buck....lol. It took a fewtargets to get my head on straight after that one......lol.

I wouldn't normally go to this event but I pretty much have a free ride, and hotel to split between 3 guys so why not?

Buckeye? You going to be at this definitely?

One last Q guys, are you timed on the targets at indoor worlds? Are these mechanical or stationary targets?

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

I've seen you guys shooting at Harrisburg. That is some severe uphill shots there. Really tough to judge the distances on those critters stuck in between the stadium seats.LOL You always hear lots of arrows rattling and clanging off the wood work.[&:] I always wondered what kind of fool would want to drag his bow in here and embarras him/herself by slamming arrows off the concret floors and seats. Now I know, Rick James and Matt/PA. LOL:D:D[8D] More power to ya guys. X them all Rick.

The IBOIndoor World has been held at the IX center for a few years, 2 thatI know of and have shot one. And the rules for the Hunter Class are the same as the 3D season.

You have 2 Minute's to get your shot off.It don't sound like a very long time, but most time's the line is all done before the red light comes on.

While I love to try just about anything, I can't justify the $$ it would take in travel expenses to this event. I have not shot Buckmasters in the past but may someday if I can get a crew to go with so it's not so darn expensive.

Just to give you guys who haven't seen the event an idea of what the shooting is like.........here's what the Harrisburg Eastern Sports show 3D challenge format looks like (Not the best pic but it shows a good majority of the targets)

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

......and here's a picture of the craziness that goes on "on the line"
(note all the spectators ....if you get nervous easily don't look back[:-])

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

That last pic doesn't show the whole stadium full of people watching either.......I think last year there were something like 5000+ people in there watching us on the first day.....lol. It's a pretty cool and unique event. The best thing about it is that no one can really practice for shots like this, so it levels the playing field quite a bit. If you don't bend at the waist and have a solid anchor you end up with big problems quickly.........lol.

Rob, I hope your gonna blow the dust of that Bowtech this year and have some fun with us, it should be a great time.

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

These pictures really don't give you a true feel for how far and how uphill some of those shots are either. It must be 25 yards or so to the first wall of seats and then it's all UPHILL... big time. I'd get tired walking up hill to pull my arrows.

RE: 2007 Indoor Worlds Q's.........

Rick James...

All of the rules are the same from the outdoor national shoots, all targets are on level ground and there are no moving targets.

All of this "easy" talk..... The target setup may not be the most challenging but calling the shoot easy is incorrect IMO. To win (from results from the past two years) you have to have a perfect shoot. If you want to be in the top few places youhave to be near perfect. 433 33X won last year, 430 34X was second. In 2005 426 28X won, second was 423 29X.

What makes it "easy" is it is near impossible to misjudge yardage bad enough to drop points. If you know the scoring rings and have a steady arm you will do well.

I see you guys talking about the "line" at Harrisburg. Wait until you see the line at the indoors, I think you have 80 people on the line at the same time.

IMO it would be the perfect shoot for your first national level shoot.

I will be there again this year as it is a blast.

Talk about pressure. Between the crowds behind you and the crowd at the line, I would crap myself. Are all those shooters at the line at the same time safe?
I am assuming so.....

Heckling is quite common in competitive archery.....lol. That is what makes this stuff fun. This last weekend I was at an informal indoor event with some guys that are pretty well known on the national level (GRIV, Doug Williams, Eric Springer, etc), shooting around guys of this caliber is intimidating enough. I had let down on 2 shots in one end because I knew they werent going to be good shots and because of that I was last on the line with 40+ people watching me alone shooting my last arrow. While at full draw I hear out of the background.........."Hey just settle down now it's not like anyone important is watching you right now".......(and then pure silence). [8D] I did manage to put it in the puddin but man that can test your mental game......lol.

I was kinda kidding.....but wondered if people talked while you were shooting. I ONLY shoot the little tournaments at our archery shop (Indoor 3D....20 targets....up to 43 yds).....and everyone's civil.

If anyone's coming to the Buckmasters.......let me know. I live about 30 miutes from the venue. I have friends who'll shoot it. The guy who won it last year lives about an hour from here.

In all seriousness in Harrisburg it is so loud with so many people in there all talking at the same time that I find it easy to zone out into the background noise and just focus. I think it would be worse if everyone was quiet......

It's below and to the right of the Mathews banner........

The distances are 35 yards max for hunter class (no lens, 4 pins, 4" fletch, screw in points), 45 yards for MBR (pins and no lens), and 50 for MBO (whatever you want...freestyle). There aren't any targets that will read further than 50 yards in there.

Guessing by what I remember from last year, I am saying that is about a 38-39 yard turkey.........;).
